In fact, the true power behind the game is the fact that it comes with a board along with 500 cards and a few components. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like). Even though there are several potential actions available in the deck, they are all simple to understand. I am also a sucker for any board that is a map and this one is a great stylized version of Tokyo and its surroundings on one side and Osaka on the flip-side.

Protect can be placed under the leftmost, rightmost, or center card in your line to be unaffected by the Remove ability on that card.And for anybody who hasn’t played a deck-builder or may be on the fence about them, Trains is a great way to get your feet wet.

Deciding the best strategy from turn to turn can dictate what you are able to accomplish with your deck. I’m not exaggerating though, the box for this game is very small – It definitely won’t take up a lot of precious shelf real estate in your collection. Each player claims 20 wooden cubes in their player color representing their train line and one scoring cube, which starts on the 0 spot of the victory point tracker that encircles the board. Do you discard this card to replace it with one that with synchronise well with your train, but also benefit another player for a greater advantage, knowing that they could use that card against you and undo everything you have just done?The card which is replaced is put in the middle of the table, which could be used as an optional action. Keep your eyes peeled and you may spot a certain Knight Rider automobile and a famous Iron Throne, among quite a few others.
