About this deal

She has lost her whole family and she has survivor's guilt, and you can't expect someone to be whole and cheery with this sort of weight on their shoulders, but Ever's not a little kid. With all the Fae court politics going on in this book, it leaves for some unrequited feelings…well, of the spicy variety. There’s a lot of flashbacks and the magic is really expanded upon compared to the first book, so if you liked the magic we saw in Everless then this story is definitely one to check out! This is the first book in a series with at least another 4 books to follow, the newest one to be out sometime next year.

Same worn out story of an insecure girl falling for a mysterious/sexy/dangerous paranormal guy, same absent adults, same "love" without really knowing each other, same focus on outer beauty and expensive things, same gazing into each other's eyes, and same chaste sleeping in the same bed. As the reader gets deeper into the story, we learn quite a bit about Jules' and Caro's pasts, as well as what fuelled the divide between them. After surviving a car accident that killed her entire family, 16-year-old Ever gains the ability to see auras and read thoughts. Deluged by everyone's thoughts and auras, Ever wears hoodies and iPod earbuds as shelter from psychic clamor, until mysterious hottie Damen silences it. Depressed and insecure, she is now dealing with “gifts” that she feels she must keep a secret (she can see ghosts – strangely enough, she has her ghost of a little sister to hang around with, auras, life events etc…).

It's this whole predator/prey formula that prowls around YA like a fucking snake in the grass, etching the gender binary in stone. The three big things revealed are Jules’s family, Jules’s identity, and the identity of her nemesis. From telling her how special she is to him, to her realizing she still doesn’t even have his phone number!Vampires don’t need to refrain from daylight and angels no longer need to “fall” for good they can now be redeemed like us!

History, friends, likes, dislikes, family, passions, interests, hobbies and personality flaws are all negligible information that is taking up precious space in your novel. By accident, Ever learns that he has no aura, a fact that pushes her to uncover more about the mysterious newcomer. Ever and Damen have spent centuries facing down bitter rivals, jealous friends and their own worst fears—all in the hope of being together forever. Best friends make the worst enemies—they know all your secrets, your weaknesses, and just how to hurt you most. Living with her aunt in Southern California, she's plagued by the ability to hear the thoughts of those around her, and haunted by the ghost of her little sister.Despite her fierce loyalty to Damen, Ever is drawn to Jude, a green-eyed golden boy with magical talents and a mysterious past. The book would have rated higher if she had gotten her bitch on and explored some flaws and darker feelings. It tries to make Ever out to be this sympathetic holier-than-thou Christ metaphor but in all honesty she's just an asshole. I especially like how Jules learns the best way to protect those she loves is to face the conflict and let her friends help her do it. The writing wasn’t anything special- I felt that Noel didn’t do much to explain, plus the mythology was terrible.
