About this deal

With diary entries written by eleven-year-old Libby Scott, based on her own experiences of autism with a demand avoidant profile, this pioneering book, written in collaboration with esteemed author Rebecca Westcott, has been widely praised for its realistic portrayal of autism.

Most powerful of all is Tally’s ultimate realisation that autism is not something that needs to be hidden. I guess that is proof the community is not a monolith of people who behave in the exact same way - that is exactly why it is a spectrum condition. A fantastic read for those wanting to understand autism but in an engaging way through storytelling. She doesn't want to not be autistic, because it's part of what makes her Tally, and I completely connect with that from my own different experiences. Some of the more embarrassing extracts from her childhood and teenage diaries are used as the diary entries in her debut novel, Dandelion Clocks. It’s really important to point out to neurotypical readers that Tally is not a universal representation of how Autism presents itself. Tally faces secondary school with dread about what lies ahead, despite her older sister’s advice and a Year 6 induction experience.

Tally and one of the other kids in the book reminded me completely of a couple children I teach and it hit some very personal nerves because of it. Previous Talking to Alaska by Anna Waltz Next The Fantastic Book of Feelings: A Guide to Being Happy, Sad and Everything In-Between!

We believe that books are a great way to raise awareness and improve understanding of different experiences.
