I love how on each share of this book you spot something new with different labels to spot and the various details amongst the illustrations. Starting off with a buildup that felt a tad more like women’s lit than thriller, the slow burn quickly caught fire into a rip-roaring explosion of suspense.
Characters are always making vague threats in their head about the others around them, something like ‘as long as I follow my plan today she’ll realize what a mistake she’s made’, or something similar.
It's a fun ride, I love hiking in the great outdoors, especially in more isolated areas on multi day hikes so for me this book was a show in.
When the women arrive in Norway laden down with their hiking gear, each is anxious for different reasons, no less the fact none of them have ever hiked in their lives. She was right to include the teaser at the beginning of the book that implies only two of the four will survive, because at the very least, it piques our curiosity, and for the majority of the book, we don’t know which characters it will be. Once they get going it is clear they weren’t truly prepared and this mountain hike might just be more than they bargained for. Every year the women go on holiday to maintain their friendship, taking it in turns to pick the destination.I don’t usually go for books like this, so in case you’re wondering why I decided to give The Hike a try despite the publisher description clearly indicating that this will be a totally insane and off-the-wall experience, it was because of two words that jumped out at me: video games. I purchased this book on audio myself, I want to have the hardcover of this book on my shelf its a goodie! The wilderness hides secrets darker than they could ever have imagined, and if they’re not careful .
If you’re looking for an entertaining popcorn thriller, albeit maybe not memorable or a chart topper, look no further!The Hike is so much fun, has so much pure velocity, that I didn't realize until it was too late--what I thought was a drumbeat of excitement was actually the novel's secret, powerful heart. What starts as a walking holiday in Norway for four old pals – Maggie, Liz, Helena and Joni – ends as a hiking expedition with twists and turns that none of them are prepared for.
