One can dwell on a tweet without the noise and see for sure that something seems deeply wrong with how we communicate with one another.

Maude is not meant to be a believable, three-dimensional character but, rather, “a sort of projection of all of society’s dehumanising of women”. Over the next eight years Maude is looked for and never caught and her victims are left to live broken lives. I think if Carl Jung were examining this, he would say that I was also possibly breaking out of some sort of a physical cast that I had been in my entire life.Tamblyn realizes she has a larger responsibility with her fame and power, to follow speech with action, which is what drove her as a founding member of Time’s Up. Tamblyn takes the potentially-cringeworthy concept of a female rapist raping men and makes it potent because it doesn't so much focus on the perp as it does the victims. exploitative sensationalist media does so much harm, often under the guise of "news" or raising awareness. Jamar is also treated badly by the media when they publish everything about his attack that could have only come from a leak in the support group and Pear is furious about it as well trying to get Jamar to reach out but he won’t.

Good evening, I’m your host, Melissa Hope and thank you for joining me on BCN’s number-one primetime television talk show The Melissa Hope Hour… [Guests], what do you make of these specific cases and the controversial circumstances surrounding how, in particular, they occurred? I think it's important to show women that we are not alone in our experiences, to show others what those experiences can be and load up our arsenals with the options we see that might save our lives, should we ever need to. These men have never forgotten or forgiven what Maude did to them but they found a way to struggle through and survive for the most part. We must watch our carb intake and never miss an episode of American's Next Top Model and follow all of Cosmo's beauty tips.

I’m not religious, but my mom is Christian and she hates when people hear she’s a Christian and assume she probably doesn’t like gay people, or that she’s probably against immigration.

In her blazingly original and unforgettable debut novel Any Man, Amber Tamblyn brings to startling life a specter of sexual violence in the shadowy form of Maude, a female serial rapist who preys on men. The book is woven together with poetry, prose, journal entries, radio show dialogue, tweets and dating app chats and monologues and erratic thoughts. Tamblyn is also one of the founders of Time’s Up, an organisation launched at the beginning of this year to fight sexual harassment in the film industry. Each character receives their own “part” of the book, and although there are no labels or titles to let you know who is speaking, the voices are so unique that you know exactly who is speaking. When you don’t feel seen, you, of course, get furious, which I think is how a lot of women have felt for a long time.I loved the writing style, at one point I forgot this was fiction, needless to say I was very impressed with Amber Tamblyn. You live within the characters as they speak; you watch the news, you read the tweets, you see the texts. It is abstract in its prose, but it's in this abstract style that you are hit with so much raw, unflinching emotion that it becomes impossible to look away.

People who live through sexual assault are a crash on the side of the road, and the American media is nothing more than cars slowing down just long enough to take a peek. I was curious why Amber Tamblyn decided to have Maude’s transgendered victim, Michael Parker, kill himself instead of giving him a voice instead of letting him appear as a viewpoint character. And in the end, the killer just ends up being a mouthpiece for a very stereotypical approximation of female anger.

I think Tamblyn intended for this to be a subtle social commentary but the commentary screamed from the pages. As Cameron Diaz said in the 2000 classic masterpiece, Charlie's Angels, " I signed that release form, so you can just feel free to stick things in my [box]. kanye saying men can't be raped, amanda palmer using survivors' pain to promote her kickstarter, 44 taking the opportunity to tout the US government as the greatest. She grew up saying other people’s words and feeling other people’s feelings, being watched without truly being seen. Any Man” (out June 26 from HarperPerennial) tracks the criminal exploits of a female serial rapist through the stories of her six victims, as they attempt to recover and live normal lives.
