About this deal

Also a quick shout out to my favorite pun in the book: in reference to a power-rationed cities, the character refers to the inhabitants as the "have-watts and the have-nots. One thing I like about short stories is the freedom they give authors to jump straight into the narrative without spending time on scene-setting or backstory and in this collection of 11 macabre tales, CJ Tudor makes good use of that freedom. J. Tudor's works always succeed in smoothly incorporating the celestial into the plotline that is solidly based on a fundamental mystery. You’re not going to love every single story, but if at least a few resonate within you, then it’s a win. I have enjoyed all of her books and couldn’t wait to get my hands on her new collection of short stories.

A decadent and phantasmagorical descent into the dark chasm where I first fell in love with horror fiction . The opening story, End of the Line, jumps straight in with an immediately engaging story of a 75-year-old woman who has spent the last 50 years on a luxury cruise ship. While writing the Chalk Man she ran a dog-walking business, walking over twenty dogs a week as well as looking after her little girl. He had been in a nursing home for two years, and because of Covid lockdowns, she could only visit him for thirty minutes every two weeks, speaking to him through Perspex.

Final Course - (scariest IMO) “The problem with darkness was once you let it in, it lurked in the corners of your mind, filling them with shadows.

Tudor's novels are widely acclaimed for their dark, twisty suspense plots, but with A Sliver of Darkness, she pulls us even further into her dizzying imagination. These eleven twisted tales of the macabre from the bestselling author of The Chalk Man are your perfect companions as the nights draw in. J. Tudor there are hints of Stephen King, but I also sensed influences from the likes of Doctor Who, Kafka, Alex Garland, Roald Dahl, Jules Verne and H.

I enjoyed this one the most out of all of them as it was the right amount of funny, creepy, and strange.I do think this will be a big hit with most people and there are a wide variety to horrors to please the reader who likes them. Too bad for the reader that the other two weren’t included in this collection because they too were great! I’m a big fan of short story collections and I loved the horror elements sprinkled throughout each story. A Sliver of Darkness succeeds in dodging the cardinal sin of most short stories collections, that is the unevenness.
