About this deal

WE were arguing about who sang You’re The One That I Want. No, not the John Travolta and Olivia Newton John version –the other one. WITH a host of memorable catchphrases and hilarious malapropisms, all delivered in an inimitable Lancashire brogue, Hylda Baker was a comedy star unlike any other. The parents decide to find someone else to marry the girl. And that's the plot so far. Not sure if you would want to watch this dog to find out what happens. I guess I will finish (14 minutes left) but I don't think I will like it!

This was an era of the catchphrase and Hylda had plenty. Big girl’s blouse, She knows y’know, I was sat sitting here and I must get a big hand put on this watch.GRO Register of Deaths: MAY 1986 17 74 SURREY MID-EASTERN - Hylda Baker, DoB = 4 February 1905 aged 81

The other issue is money, public spending. Not the daily decisions but rather a fundamental threat to her devolved budget. A threat which is presently just a spot on the horizon but which will loom larger as months pass. Actress Jean Fergusson, known for appearances in Last of the Summer Wine, wrote a biography and devised and starred in a tribute show, She Knows Y' Know!, at London's Vaudeville Theatre in 1997. The show won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment in 1998. Then, beyond the Covid crisis, there are the seemingly permanent problems besetting Scotland. Not the least of which is the grim mortality rate associated with the misuse of drugs. In 2020, no fewer than 1,339 souls succumbed, once again the worst rate in Europe.

Monthly Film Bulletin said "Hearty over-acting from Hylda Baker cannot prevent this being just one more conveyor-belt North Country farce. All the old familiar jokes and situations are affectionately preserved, with a pop singer and coffee bar thrown in to prove that the film’s makers are bang up to date with the mood of the fifties." [3] Although we are leaning more & more on how well we manage our finances - ie: Credit History & Credit Scores - that determine how responsible we are as adults, much of today's society still determines responsible behaviour and worthiness through the eyes of marriage. Many application forms asterisk & force us to answer questions that reveal our marital status. At least on paper you can choose not to answer but you can't online. Online application forms won't proceed to the next stage until you answer all the questions that are not optional and the marital status question is seldom optional.

I adore Hylda Baker, I just love her unique brand of humour, and of course she's great, it must have been hard to find roles for someone so unique, she would definitely find her place with Nearest and Dearest and Not on your Nellie. Her mishaps with words are present, but used sparingly. minutes in and the same nothing is happening. I feel I am wasting my time here... I can see why there is no plot posted for this dud. There is none! A spoiler would be impossible. There's nothing to spoil. We went on to discuss the humour of Hylda Baker and whether it would still be judged funny today. And why shouldn’t it last? She built her comedy around a character from an 18th century play. Mr William would still cycle down there as an old man; they left a duster out for him, and he always imagined a use. Today in history… ‘she knows, y’know!’ 12:00am Feb 04, 2019 | Admin - Acorn Stairlifts UK& LifestyleOne memorable thing that happened to Hylda in March 1972, and which would stay with her for ever and was to give her great pride, was that she was the subject of This Is Your Life. It was Roy Bottomley's idea that she would be a splendid subject and he was now working on the programme. She Knows Y'know | BFI | BFI". Explore.bfi.org.uk. Archived from the original on 5 August 2012 . Retrieved 15 March 2014. She has coached herself to stay calm. The younger Ms Sturgeon, apparently, felt conditioned to emulate tough, masculine behaviour. Irrationally, what was seen in a man as strength transmuted for a woman into a reputation as a “nippy sweetie”. She has learned and adapted. Hylda, all prim and malaproper - so excited, she said, that she could have a coronary trombonist - became yet more famous. Born in Bolton in 1905, she learned Lancashire clog dancing, made her stage debut at Tunbridge Wells (very red rose) and after spells as a buttonhole maker and fish and chip shop assistant (Plodders Lane, Farnworth) found a notoriously neurotic niche. Then there was William Barker - just Williams, it seems - whose famed department store in Northallerton is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

In 1955, her music hall skills were used to full effect on BBC Television’s “The Good Old Days”, which led to a TV series, “Be Soon”, named after another of her catchphrases. More TV work followed, together with film roles including a memorable turn as ‘Aunt Ada” in the 1960 classic “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning”, starring Albert Finney. Other film cameos included “Up the Junction” and “Oliver!”, both in 1968, but it was in TV sitcoms where Hylda Baker found her true home and became a household name. Either way, this is shaping up to be another tough, inter-governmental battle. Nicola Sturgeon is only too well aware of that. She knows, y’know. Ken, 56, is presently confined to his own bed after an operation on Monday, though things are looking brighter. "He's canny," says Muriel, and probably says it all.We will then move on to the Covid public inquiry. As yet, we do not know the precise formulation of the inquiry; in particular, whether there will be a separate Scottish investigation or, as seems more likely, a Scottish dimension to a pan-UK effort. Harrison in those days, Audrey was also there in 1946 when fire destroyed almost everything they'd built up at the old Temperance Hall in Gladstone Street. "We put on a show that night in the Mechanics Hall, then moved to the Co-operative Hall and up to the Royal Astoria. It was Arthur Mullard and Queenie Watts, I said. No, said Pete, it was Arthur Mullard and Hylda Baker.
