Pointillism Workshop - The Gate - Cardiff

Join us for an afternoon of dot work, a workshop led by our resident artist during June and July. Pointillism Art and Wellbeing Workshop Also known as dot work, pointillism is a drawing technique which involves delicately layering individual dots to build textures and images. Pointillist artist Cerys Knighton has found this technique to be hugely beneficial in coping with mental ill health. During this workshop, Cerys will provide pens, art paper and drawing outlines, so that you can try out different textures with pointillism, either starting a drawing from scratch or taking an outline and using pointillism as a form of shading/colouring – no drawing ability is required, this is just a space to experiment with pointillism! Your creations will be all yours to take home. This workshop will take place alongside Cerys’s ‘Bipolarity’ exhibition, so there will also be a chance to have a look around at the artwork of the exhibition. About the Artist: Cerys Knighton is a Welsh artist and medical humanities PhD student funded by the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. Primarily using a pointillism technique with pen and ink, her artwork examines and communicates the findings from her research. Cerys analyses patient case notes, medical journals and literary texts to investigate the conceptualisation of mood disorders as a category for diagnosis. Her artwork also draws from her own experiences of living with bipolar disorder.Wednesday 17th July2pm - 3pm The Pulpit Café Bar Ticketed - Free
