About this deal

It’s not that Autistics don’t have brains, or that they are ‘just like you’ only not quite as good, they have amazing brains like all humans, but their brains are wired entirely differently. Their sign language and expressive language (written form) is unbelievable that they could understand certain things so beautifully. This is proven in the incredible work of autism ambassador Alis Rowe (who if you haven’t checked out yet, you definitely should). You are correct in that everyone is a little different, and the labels of neuro-typical and neuro-divergent is both helpful and not helpful, as they do not capture that there is a grey area where it gets increasingly difficult to function in a society that is geared for the middle of the spectrum – picture a typical Bell curve or normal distribution from statistics – typical means those people who are not at either end of the curve, and could also be described as average. Present the social story to the person at a time when everyone is feeling calm and relaxed, using a straightforward approach, eg I have written this story for you.

They are so much stories, I appreciated how inclusive and diverse they were, how colourful and colourl It is people such as you that are the reason I’m isolated from society as you expect too much from that which you do not understand. Ollerton’s original conception came from a desire to give creators with autism a space to express themselves, to feel less alone, and to talk about a topic rarely covered in comics. Similarly someone who is extremely dexterous and has great physical capabilities might find a world that is designed for people who are on average more clumsy than they are a bit annoying if they thought about it.Sensory: Life on the Spectrum – An Autistic Comic Anthology is an anthology of short webcomics by 30 creators about life as actually autistic people.

Face Value Comics are an unsung hero within the autistic and comic book community, who are well deserving of a shout out today. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. As with any anthology I was bound to enjoy some more than others but I believe that overall it was a very good read. Bex Ollerton creates introspective comics about mental health, neurodivergence and the general struggles of being a human being in an overwhelming world. It's so great to have a book like this to read and learn more about your diagnosis and feel so much more relief as you find out how common some of the things you do that were previously seen as "weird". This means that REALLY smart people at the top end of the IQ spectrum might find it as frustrating to function in this world as would people who are at the bottom end of the IQ spectrum. Dekko Comics have proven not just great resources, but also ideal reading books for autistic children. Beautifully crafted, displaying the joys of being autistic as well as the struggles in a very accessible medium.
