Piano to Zanskar - Chapter - Cardiff

“I will get you to the Himalayas. I will get you a piano to Zanskar.”Starling Entertainment and Between Friends present their award-winning film, ‘Piano to Zanskar’. Set against the stunning backdrop of the desolate mountain landscape, Michal Sulima’s first documentary-feature film, transports audiences right into the heart of the Indian Himalayas. It follows one man’s determined vision to deliver a 100-year-old upright piano to an isolated primary school in Lingshed. If successful, this will be the highest piano delivery in history, reaching around 14,000 feet above sea level, and the peak of Desmond Gentle’s 40-year-long piano tuning career. The reasons behind Desmond’s devotion and dedication remain unclear, but for Sulima, the backbone of the film subtly reflects themes of change, age and determination. It is this determination which allows the filmmakers to embrace the scale and complexity of the perilous landscape. Using only yaks, ponies and a team of Sherpas to navigate the high mountain trails, frightening events are captured brilliantly by the film crew, whilst capturing moments of beautiful cultural exchange. “Everybody in the world can understand the language of music” The film first premiered in the 2018 Edinburgh Film Festival, having previously achieved success by winning the ‘Work in Progress’ award. 🎞 ‘Piano to Zanskar’ will be shown this year at the Welsh International Documentary Film Festival on Wednesday 8th May at 6:10pm at Chapter Arts Centre. 👁‍🗨 Including Q&A 📽 Watch the trailer here: https://vimeo.com/274056570
