About this deal

Those are the easy fixes for these often unavoidable houseplant travails. But anthuriums may come up against two ailments that are more difficult to contend with: Leaf blight and root rot. Either condition may destroy the plants entirely. Propagating an Anthurium plant is quite easy to do. You can multiply your Anthurium plant easily, and it is a great way to share your love for plants with your friends and family. Then use the knife to sever pieces from the stem, making sure each has two nodes to poke beneath the soil on one end, and a couple of leaves on the other end. Cause: If your Anthurium flower develops brown leaves, the most common reason is underwatering. Other reasons are a natural cause, overwatering, too much sunlight, and pests.

This one is also desirable for its unique foliage. The leaves are veined with white and have a crystal-like, shiny texture. All parts of the plant produce insoluble calcium oxalate, a substance that causes people who eat small quantities to experience symptoms including pain, swelling, or burning in the mouth; swollen lips, tongue, or throat; stomach irritation or vomiting; and diarrhea. First and foremost, the best kind of sunlight for this plant is bright, indirect sunlight. However, direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light can cause the plant to become leggy and weak. So, what is the ideal amount of light for this plant? Well, the Purple Anthurium plant requires at least six hours of bright, indirect light per day. But beware, too much light can be harmful to the plant. Therefore, it is best to provide the plant with a balance of light and shade. Bring long-lasting color into your home with the Anthurium Purple. This easy-care houseplant features waxy, colorful leaves known as spathes that resemble flowers, for real!. The spathes surround the actual flowers, but the vivid colors of the spathes make them stand out. Light The leaves of a healthy Anthurium plant should be bright green and glossy. Avoid plants with yellow, brown, or droopy leaves, as these are a sign of stress or disease.Anthuriums have heart-shaped blooms, which come in a range of colors from red to pink to white. When choosing a plant, look for fully unfolded blooms free of blemishes.

And because they are super waxy and glossy, the effect is mind-blowing! Heart-shaped and pointed, bending forward at the tip, these modified leaves contrast with the bending spadices at their center, which are white to reddish-orange. New growth emerges as small leaves or flowers. They increase in size over time. So the final size of a leaf or bloom can only be judged after several weeks.

Humidity

You can help to give your Anthurium the perfect sunlight exposure by finding a bright spot in your house where the plant won't get any direct sunlight exposure. The direct sunlight will turn your Anthurium's leaves yellow and leave sunburn spots.

Anthurium plants grow best using a well-balanced fertilizer. Read more in my detailed guide about Fertilizer for Anthurium. A humidifier is a great way to regulate the humidity levels around your plant but could be a slightly more expensive solution. An easier way to raise humidity is to cover your plant with a glass or plastic dome. This dome will trap the humidity around your plant and mimic the tropical environment of the rainforest it naturally grows in. Most anthurium varieties bloom last for an impressive 2 to 3 months and can repeat throughout the year, making it a very valuable houseplant. The blooms are followed by juicy berries of many colors, depending on the variety. These usually contain seeds. Most anthuriums thrive on humidity, but the flowering varieties can tolerate more dryness. If your humidity level is less than 50%, then consider using a humidifier to increase the level to at least 60%. Filling small trays with pebbles and water and grouping indoor plants together can slightly increase the humidity immediately surrounding your plants. Whiteflies

Light

Problems start when the temperature drops to under 45oF, or 7oC, because it may even die under this level. Fortunately, this rarely ever happens indoors. If that doesn’t work, you may lose that plant, which is a bummer. To prevent another case of leaf blight, eliminate overly-humid growing conditions, and be sure to only water your plants at the soil line, not overhead. They seek warmth and feed on foliage from its underside, leaving behind brown and yellow spots, and teeny-tiny webs. Eventually, the damage they cause will weaken the plant, and they may move on to spinning their webs on the colorful spathes. The easiest and most popular ways include taking a cutting to root in soil or water, or dividing a mature plant with developed roots.
