About this deal

Yeah as I was reading this book I was like... wait then why is insulin given for type 2 shouldn't insulin only be given for type 1 diabetes. So insulin really is bad for type 2.

Going away to college broke the Hostess Cupcake pipeline, and I did not eat any more for several years. I bought a Hostess Cupcake at 7-Eleven one time on a whim. It did not taste anything like I remembered. It was soft and creamy. I realized that I had never actually eaten a fresh Hostess Cupcake. The truth is that fat accumulation, like all other tissues and processes in the body, is highly regulated. Hormonal regulation of fat The Obesity Code is a book written by Dr. Jason Fung, MD. It describes a diet program targeted at those who have a hard time losing weight, even when they follow a regular diet and exercise program. I also appreciate his point that diets should be mixed up. He writes that the average American gains one or two pounds a year, which doesn’t sound like much, but obviously adds up after twenty years. Particularly if you’re a short female like myself. If I put on five pounds, it is very noticeable in a way it wouldn’t be on a 6’2” male. I do know that exercise routines need to be mixed up at least every six weeks because our bodies grow used to whatever we’re doing.

The Obesity Code Summary

A recent study suggests that 75 per cent of the weight-loss response in obesity is predicted by insulin levels. Not willpower. Not caloric intake. Not peer support or peer pressure. Not exercise. Just insulin.” By lowering the amount of fat in the body, there is less estrogen overload. This may have a beneficial impact on muscle mass, energy, sex drive, and self-confidence in both men and women. Weight Loss All diets work in the short term. But we’ve been ignored the longterm problem of insulin resistance. There is one more piece of the puzzle--a solution found centuries ago. A practice that has been enshrined in the nutritional lore of virtually every population on earth...

Scroll below for one of the best products we’ve seen over the last year. The Obesity Code and Exercise But then a good thing happened, and in the 21st century in the US we started to recognize the evils of soda and drink less. Profits for Coca Cola fell. So then: Hmm cut out sugar, cut out processed foods, cut out flour and routinely skip miss a meal on purpose a couple of times a week (fasting). Insulin and insulin resistance are the reasons that people have problems losing weight. Calorie counting doesn't work. Exercise is healthy and helpful in lots of ways that are important to our well being, but for actual weight loss (long term), not so much. Actually for the most part this book made sense on the surface. Time will tell if it's viable. May have a more in depth review later after applying some of Fung's concepts... PCOS and insulin resistance 33:14 What is the connection between PCOS and insulin resistance? What are the three criteria for PCOS, and why do some women develop too much testosterone? And why do women put on a low-carb diet for other reasons than infertility, have a higher pregnancy rate?Because losing weight seems to be more challenging for some people than it is for others, there are various diet programs out on the market specifically developed to target the loss of stubborn fat. One example of a diet program that advertises that it can help virtually anyone lose weight is called The Obesity Code. Dr. Jason Fung is a Canadian nephrologist. He’s a world-leading expert on intermittent fasting and low carb, especially for treating people with type 2 diabetes. He has written three best-selling health books and he co-founded the Intensive Dietary Management program. Dr. Fung, however, expects you never to have this problem, which is short-sighted and, if your previous food environment encouraged you to overeat, dangerous. When you open a bag of Frito-Lay’s, it isn’t you versus the lure of potato chips, it’s you versus the ingenuity of hundreds of whip-smart food scientists. You’re gonna lose. Everything you believe about how to lose weight is wrong. Weight gain and obesity are driven by hormones—in everyone—and only by understanding the effects of insulin and insulin resistance can we achieve lasting weight loss. Dr. Fung really downplays exercise in terms of weight loss but agrees that it helps with stress reduction and mood. I have a hard time believing that exercise doesn’t have much to do with weight loss. I know that the foods and beverages we consume are far more important than exercise, but when I first quit my day job and went freelance, I lost fifteen pounds without trying. I was thirty-three years old and down to my high school weight. In high school, I was dancing two hours a day. The only change I made as an adult is that, without have an eight-to-five job, I was able to walk for 45 minutes a day in addition to my normal workouts three or four days a week. That little bit of extra exercise made the difference.

The power of a 7-day fast 03:34 How do you fast for 7 days? And in what ways could it be beneficial? We normally avoid insulin resistance, as we avoid resistance to every other hormone, because these hormones are emitted in pulses, and the body never develops resistance to them. The hormones increase, have an effect, then decrease before resistance develops. growth hormone, for example, is largely released during sleep, then it decreases. No, it doesn’t. There’s an association, and doesn’t prove causation. Most low-carb writers that I’m aware of claim that a metabolic defect causes the (soon-to-be) obese to eat more. So excess calories is a middle step, necessary but not sufficient for weight gain. The rejection of blood glucose by your muscle cells is what forces your body to deposit the blood glucose in your fat cells.Seems like a fair evaluation of the science and reasoning behind the Obesity Code but am disturbed by the blatant endorsement of a “diet supplement” pill. Brings the neutrality (in a fiscal meaning) of the reviewer into question. Who is the snake oil salesman in the equation? Glucose levels and insulin levels rise as you process food, from a whole apple to apple sauce, to apple juice. Reduce your consumption of added sugars. Reduce your consumption of refined grains. Moderate your protein intake. Increase your consumption of natural fats. Increase your consumption of fiber and vinegar.
