About this deal

Your affections aside, objectively, Chrome Soft has never been a good golf ball. Nobody making a soft ball has been transparent enough about the performance implications for mid- to high-swing golfers and Callaway’s quality control issues were such that, even if you didn’t notice, it may have cost you some strokes. Chrome Soft's not-so-secret ingredient is Callaway's SoftFast core, which is more resilient at impact than other soft cores. Long story short, that makes it compatible with swing speeds of 105-plus mph. Callaway announced their latest golf-ball-duo as per 2020, and yes, today we'll be talking about the Chrome Soft and Chrome Soft X. Amazingly enough, the initial Chrome Soft was marketed as the ball that changed the ball, and regardless of how corny this sounds, the new 2020 Chrome Soft really comes with a bang, and we're not mincing words here either. Callaway Golf. In the case of a Callaway Golf component, you must obtain warranty service through an Consistency across our Chrome Soft sample set was on the higher end of the average range. That’s a good thing. 2020 Callaway Chrome Soft – Inspection

An entirely new mantle system for increased ball speed. The Soft Inner Mantle and a highly resilient Firm Outer Mantle work together to generate increased ball speed off the club face. This innovative system is specifically created to increase total distance. With higher compression baked into the design, there’s significantly less of a chance that the ball will over-compress at tour speeds. Don’t take that as a suggestion that Callaway has gone full Pinnacle here. As with Chrome Soft, it’s about tweaking materials and the relationship between the core and CSX’s two mantle layers to create a ball that, compression point for compression point, is faster than competitor offerings, but still feels soft- ish. Bridgestone would argue that this is exactly what it did when it launched the RX line, but there’s no disputing the fact that Callaway’s take on the soft tour ball is the one that resonated with golfers in a way that no other previous soft offering had.We deem individual balls under the size limit as “bad”; however, the lot itself would be conforming under USGA rules. Consistency and Roundness While not among the absolutely most consistent balls on the market for compression, we have no major concerns. 2020 Callaway Chrome Soft – Diameter By introducing new materials and altering the relationship between the three inner layers, Callaway gets what it describes as a “jailbreak” effect for the golf ball. More speed, same soft feel. Depending on the severity – small defects can be no big deal, while larger ones can be the difference between hitting a fairway and being OB. Reduces drag for increased overall distance, with a consistent, penetrating ball flight for optimum trajectory.

Like the previous two balls tested in Ball Lab ( Srixon Q-Star Tour and B ridgestone TOUR B RXS), the Callaway Chrome Soft falls in what we call the non-Tour urethane category. It’s a category that exists largely for slow to moderate swing speed players looking for soft- ish feel without giving away greenside spin entirely. While MyGolfSpy bright up some points that are helping all of us get better balls, the distance testing was suspect. Simply averaging 85 & 115mph doesn’t tell the story. Nearly all the distance loss is over 110mph. I’ve banged a bunch of Chrome Softs and Pro V1s down the same fairway and saw nothing like what MyGolfSpy said. TXG couldn’t reproduce it either with Matt’s 125mph swing. Across the ball market as a whole, the Chrome Soft can be considered a mid-compression ball. However, it should be noted that it is among the softest in the urethane category and significantly softer than what is likely to be played on the PGA TOUR. Compression Consistency I hadn’t seen the comment on the sample size – I think my comment was posted before Tony made clarified that point. Frankly I am a little surprised that the manufacturers would agree to that small of a sample, but if they are on board so be it. Now, let's talk a little bit about the new Chrome Soft X: the name of the game is bigger, better, faster, more, and speaking of bigger, the core in the X version is 117% (yes you got that right) larger in terms of volume compared to the previous design. Go big or go home, right? The new core is built using exotic materials, i.e. high molecular weight Neodymium rubber, provided such a thing even exists (just kidding). The new compound is faster and stronger compared to the “vanilla version” (sans X), which results in ludicrous ball speeds. Also, the Chrome Soft X 2020 boasts a single-core mantle, compared to the standard variant, which employs a dual-core thing. Why did Callaway choose a single core design for Mr. X? The answer my friends is “Jail Break Effect”, and if you are wondering what on Earth is that, well, that's what the company told us. Allow us to elaborate on that a little: a single core mantle provides faster balls speeds and more energy throughout the bag dixit Callaway, as in not only with the driver.

Sorry

None of the balls in our 2020 Callaway Chrome Soft sample exceeded the USGA weight limit of 1.620 ounces.
