Although this type of spiked post holder is great for fence posts in normal ground we would not recommend it for any type of fencing which puts lateral stress onto the posts. You can also use this size to install upright timber structures into your garden to create different zones, and to add height and interest by breaking up planting areas (see example below). We would suggest you drill a hole a couple of centimetres from the top of the block, all the way through, and thread through some sturdy rope to make a loop, or a piece of reinforcing bar (rebar) to act as a handle, like the one in the image below. Please note, regardless of the fence spike you take, these spikes wouldn’t be effective if installed in sandy soil. After all these years, the fence has held up well, and we've helped some of our friends and family put up fences too. In this DIY guide we will show you how to install fence posts using metal post holders (post spikes or Metposts as they are also known). Please note, without using a tool it might become too much hard word, we recommend using a tool to make this task done. There is a bolt on the side of the holder that can be done up easily with a spanner to keep the post firm in the spike. If you are putting in a fence that wasn’t there before, be explicitly sure that you are on your own property. You don’t have to wait for concrete to harden and don’t need to think about replacing the ground around the screws.

As you tighten the bolt check with a spirt level that the post is upright – not leaning backwards or forwards, or to the right or left. Fencing posts are available in a variety of sizes to suit all applications, including usage as gate posts. Additional brace supports will be needed if using with a post that is over 6 feet or in sand/saturated soil for proper stabilizing.

Do not use the shorter post holders for tall fences, they’re simply not up to teh job and as soon as they are subjected to any substantial wind they will likely fail. You could make your own driving block by cutting a short length of fence post and using that as a block. This is probably the strongest method of fixing, especially in concrete which has been mixed by hand and may contain air bubbles. You can use lag screws that you tighten with a socket that works better than screws; such as 1/4-inch SDS screws. Our opinion is, as post spike has numerous benefits and multiple scopes of applying it various projects and take less time, tools and less materials to apply, so that using post spikes would be more wiser than post mix.
