About this deal

If your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far, the TheaWellbeing blyss weighted blanket with cover is a fantastic value for money buy. For children, we love the Snoozzzy dinosaur weighted blanket.

Our original Cotton Napper is made from 100% organic sustainably-farmed cotton. Our Tree Napper is made of Tencel, a fiber made from the wood pulp of trees grown and replaced on specialized tree farms. Our Tencel comes from eucalyptus wood pulp, making it extra cooling and completely biodegradable. Weighted blankets are typically filled with thousands of tiny glass beads that apply light pressure to the user. This pressure can have a soothing, calming effect on the body, says Nichola Henderson, a holistic life, self-development coach and wellness specialist.

How do I choose the right one/weight for me?

Our organic long-staple cotton is pre-washed for buttery softness – just like your favorite T-shirt.

It’s possible to use the blankets overnight if they feel good and the user is comfortable doing so, but short periods of time up to 20-30 minutes can also be helpful to slow down and encourage rest during busy or stressful times. It comes down largely to personal preference and comfort.” Weighted blankets were originally created for medical use," says Dr Nauf AlBendar. "They are typically one of the sensory tools commonly used in psychiatric units and occupational therapy to help comfort restless individuals." We also have an 8 lb weighted blanket, the Nappling, designed especially for kids. How do you wash a woven weighted blanket? We didn’t like: The cover doesn’t come as standard, so if you’d like one, you’ll have to shell out extra. Most weighted blankets are designed for use by one person or, even if it’s a particularly big one, they usually won’t cover the whole bed. But the Baloo weighted comforter is designed to be large enough for sharing, snuggling and sleeping soundly under. You’re even likely to find one that will cover your entire bed, so long as it’s no bigger than a superking. The lowdown: From the mattress-in-a-box company comes its signature weighted blanket. It’s available in two different weights and comes in grey. The beads are made from glass and, while not necessary for use, there’s a removable 100% cotton cover you can add for hygiene purposes. If you’re looking for more information, read our deep-dive into how weighted blankets work. What are the health benefits of weighted blankets? So, keeping these weight guidelines in mind, we tried out the most-hyped weighted blankets on the market. Here’s the lowdown on what we thought.

The lowdown: American company Nuzzie scores some serious eco points with its hand-knitted weighted blankets. The filling is recycled from more than 500 plastic bottles, saving around 25,000 gallons of water per blanket when compared with cotton – plus the company is totally carbon neutral.

The verdict: Weighted blankets

Some people prefer the lighter feel of a duvet, says Henderson, and she suggests using something you already have at home to evaluate if the sensation of sleeping under a weighted blanket is for you. “Using a few large bath towels on top of your duvet can give you a good alternative feeling of how the weighted blanket might feel before you invest in one.” Its Karma switch blankets come with removable covers in various colours, including indigo, olive green, peachy petal and, of course, grey. And if that’s not enough choice, the covers are reversible to offer an additional option, and they can be bought separately to give so much more choice. Karmara’s weighted blankets are also available in a wide range of weights, including 6kg, 8kg, 10kg and 12kg. So that it’s weighted where it matters, the glass beads are focused in the centre of the blanket rather than on the edges. Our tester wasn’t sure if this would mean that the weight would cover not all of their body, but the area is generously large enough to do the job. Newer versions sometimes swerve the beaded inners entirely, instead creating heaviness by layering up cotton into a weave – like this one from Remy Sleep. This makes it easier to wash, and they can look a little cuter when hung over your sofa arm or bed, too. Do weighted blankets work? Textures can play a big part in soothing our senses, which is why we liked the TheaWellbeing blyss weighted blanket. The velvety cover included in the box feels wonderful next to skin, and we often found ourselves running our hands along the dimpled detail throughout. Although you’re unlikely to use the weighted blanket without the cover, it is also beautifully smooth and silky.
