While reading about the features, it kept saying it had installed Amp sims, Cab sims and IR slots with 10 spots to load your own The power amp sims are a bit overdone IMHO... ALL of them have initially much more bass than any of my tube amps, as well as less extreme high frequencies... but I've been able to match the response of my Marshall, Fender and Vox combos in a few minutes thx to the onboard parametric EQ. First off, this is so much more than just a pedal because it's a cab simulator/emulator and an IR loader. This is going to be a godsend for a lot of you. A lot of guitarists can't use a real guitar amp all the time. Maybe you need to play at home. Maybe you need some way to listen through headphones or run direct out into your DAW for home recording, or you play at venues where an amp isn't allowed because it's too loud in the Front of House.

Cosmetically, of course, it's a bit "bling bling" with these shiny chrome plastic pots and this Las Vegas style peripherical green light (I've disabled the light: no need to pay more electricity for that). Because of this bias control, I can tune in high gain overdrive sounds that I really love and would use, whereas I won’t use a massive wall of sound like modern Marshall sounds, because I just don't play that style of music. But I do love coaxing cool/on the edge of distortion overdrive sounds out of pedals like this. It’s very satisfying. The Uzi does it very, very well.** An IR is an impulse response (IR, for short) its a sound measurement that takes into account the conditions around a guitar cabinet speaker, including the room, microphone and mic preamp. The JOYO Cab box works with third party IR files, simply connect to the pc/mac via USB for IR loading using the JOYO Cab software.

Not to mention that the "thru" output is physically "true bypass": it works even when the Joyo is not plugged to its 9v supply. No unwanted AD/DA conversion or dulling converters/buffers like in some other products. This latest pedal in the Joyo R-Series is pretty well loaded with handy features. There's a huge built-in screen, which should make it easier to navigate. The R-08 Cab Box comes with four tube power amp simulations, 20 cabinet models and 11 mic models. But this box also lets you load up 10 of your favourite Impulse Responses at any one time to expand the sounds available. Loading up new IRs is done using the included Joyo PC software. That flexibility makes this pedal very useful. Last but not least, the Joyo + a pair of good headphones = rewarding "amp in the room" feeling , even when the box is fed by a minimal pedalboard without preamp. That's where the param EQ gets useful IMHO.This is an excellent new entry from Joyo in their new "R" series and they just keep getting better as all innovative companies should. I had bought it partly for its MIDI capability... Sadly, the Joyo doesn't obey to program change messages coming from my old trusty GT10: apparently, the bank number sent by the GT kills any possibility to change a patch in the Joyo. :-/ If I put the Joyo as a cab AND PA sim between preamp and power amp, things get better... but only if I don't enable the onboard Joyo PA simulator and EQ: each stage of processing logically slowers the response of the unit. So, I've to use IR's modeling in "one shot" the PA+cabs of my tube amps, as "profiled" by the Nux (!). In addition to speaker emulation the pedal provides power amp simulation which allows you to select tube type as well as volume and gain staging functions.
