If I connect my Macbook directly to the monitor using a USB-C to HDMI adapter I am able to get this full resolution.Is the problem that the Macbook is actually using a Thunderbolt port rather than USB-C? Because, as I said, I can get the full resolution using a Kanaan adapter (USB-C to HDMI). As a comparison LG software for LG ultrawide monitors worked perfectly fine every time regardless how many Chrome tabs I want ed to fit.
