Ruling Russia was a two points mission that included both the sacred and imperial factors. Taking about the total number of Tsars who were brutally killed were sixteen in number. And these sixteen were from the last tsars. The Romanovs: 1613-1918 by Simon Sebag Montefiore also tells that Peter the Great was so indulged in setting up his empire that he started depressing and torturing his son. The Romanov Files, 1918 – 1953: A Non-fiction Novel by Harry Lee Poe also tells about the increasing paranoia of Stalin into insaneness because in hiding his faults, he destroyed the lives of many people. Rappaport, Helen. The Last Days of the Romanovs: Tragedy at Ekaterinburg. St. Martin's Griffin, 2010. ISBN 978-0312603472. Massie, Robert K. (2012). The Romanovs: The Final Chapter. I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this book and the events it covers. We could discuss it at length, but I should probably do some work tonight. Rappaport further explores the futile efforts to save the Romanovs by their royal relatives, other governments, and Russian monarchists. She has ferreted out new and never-before-seen sources – including recently declassified documents – from a number of archives in the United States, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. They shed new light on efforts of the royal families of Britain, Denmark, Sweden, even Germany, all of whom placed their own country’s interests above the well-being of their blood relatives. Even Russia’s staunch ally France was “actively hostile” to allowing the Romanovs a safe haven. Rappaport notes that it was only King Alfonso of Spain, who continuously made inquiries about the well-being of the Romanovs.

This novel is obviously a very ambitious undertaking. Giving voice to Anastasia, and Anna Anderson, describing minute historical details, adding authentic and vivid dialogue, along with solid pacing, and well-drawn characterizations. Perry, John Curtis, and Constantine V. Pleshakov. The Flight of the Romanovs: A Family Saga. Basic Books (A Member of the Perseus Books Group), 1999. ISBN 0-465-02463-7. Rappaport, Helen (2018). The Race to Save the Romanoffs. New York: St Martin’s Press. ISBN 978-1-250-15121-6. A breezy and concise historical account of Russia’s last imperial reign of Tsar Nicholas II, this non-fiction history book reads a lot like a novel.

An enthralling feat of historical suspense that unravels the extraordinary twists and turns in Anna Anderson's fifty-year battle to be recognized as Anastasia Romanov. Is she the Russian Grand Duchess or the thief of another woman's legacy? After the entire Romanov family was brutally slaughtered by a drunken firing squad, the family’s bodies were spirited away, hidden from the world. When all seven bodies could not be accounted for, the rumors began, and a young woman became the vortex of decades of guesswork. Was Anna Anderson really Anastasia Romanov? Is it possible she survived the slaughter of 1918 only to have an attempted suicide thwarted when she was fished form a frigid canal? Is this woman fitting the basic description of Anastasia and carrying the scars of wounds inflicted by both bullets and blades more than an opportunist seeking fame, fortune and the family treasures? Is she a delusional lost soul clinging to a fantasy that would make her life so much more meaningful? Was she like a leopard trying to change its spots?
