Q. Is Cuprinol Garden Shades suitable for garden fences and is it solvent-based? Does it contain any wax? Urban Slate has an upscale, modern aesthetic. It gives a stylish, refined look to any outdoor space. Cuprinol Country Cream Apply in dry conditions, above 5 degrees Celsius and when bad weather is not forecast, minimum of 2 coats required. The final colour will vary depending on the surface and number of coats. If adhesion is inadequate on previous coatings, lightly sand before application. Make sure wood has been pre treated with appropriate wood preserver to prevent wood and decay. Before full application of Cuprinol Garden Shades, we always recommend testing a small area first, before beginning any project to ensure that you are happy with the colour and overall look of the finish.

A. It depends on how long ago your shed and fence panels where oiled. Cuprinol Garden Shades paint is a water based product so any remaining oil or wax from previous treatments will likely repel the paint. If the timber hasn't been treated for a couple of years it may be OK. In situations like this we always recommend a test area before starting the main project to test adhesion.

Be mindful that it is waxed-enriched and that once these waxes are dried, they act to repel liquids, which would include an additional coats. Don't try to coat the whole project with one coat before getting onto the next coat. Instead it is better to paint sections in in time chunks of 2-4 hours.
