Sam Brookes - Acapela Studios - Cardiff

Aged just five, Sam Brookes cut his teeth as a chorister at the Queen’s Royal Chapel in Windsor Great Park. Upon leaving the choir he stopped performing entirely, allowing his voice to break and settle; a fact he credits for the vocal agility he has today: Brookes is now possessed of a four – octave vocal range, a classically pure tone and a Tim Buckley esque ability to glide between his lower and upper registers.Out of these classical beginnings and an immersion in his father’s fingerstyle guitar playing and folk revivalist record collection, Brookes developed an innate sense of melody and harmony. At sixteen, then training as a gilder in his father’s workshop, Brookes picked up a guitar and began to write and perform in a more personal folk style, eventually becoming a full – time artist in his mid – twenties. Brookes’ unique voice and affecting songwriting have made him a rising figure within the alt -folk genre. His 2014 LP, Kairos, was acclaimed by The Independent as one of the stand -out records of the year and his track ‘Crazy World and You’ received extensive support from BBC Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary. Single ‘James’ has since chalked up over 15 million streams. A sought – after vocalist and collaborator, Brookes has performed live and recorded with the likes of Newton Faulkner, Lucy Rose, Basement Jaxx and Pablo Nouvelle.Set for release on 3rd May, Brookes’ Tempus EP reworks some of his last LP’s most arresting, intimate songs as acoustic versions. Collaborating with producer, Laurence Love Greed, and with the help of some of the UK’s finest session players, Brookes has crafted a richly layered, haunting record of real beautyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmn1Qqe-DEA
