About this deal

New treatments recently approved for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis include dupilumab, an injectable biologic therapy and upadacitinib a Janus Kinase inhibitor tablet. When using a new cosmetic, try testing it first on a small, inconspicuous area of skin such as your forearm. If you experience a reaction, don’t use the product again.

Moderately potent to potent corticosteroids should only be used on the face or flexures under close supervision, and for a maximum of 7 days, because of the increased possibility of skin atrophy. 16 Table 2. What I do like about Sorbolene Moisturisers are that they are multi-functional. What other functions can there be? Aqueous Cream BP, also known as sorbolene, is a light, hydrocarbon-based emulsion, which is officially registered in the British Pharmacopoeia and categorised by the British National Formulary as a non-proprietary emollient preparation. [1] It is used as a topical, external medicine, emollient moisturiser, and general-purpose substitute for toiletries such as soap, shower gel, shaving cream, and lip salve. I want to introduce you to one of these unicorn products I recently discovered: Kenkay Sorbolene cream. What is Sorbolene cream? Now I've decided to use it as my go-to facial moisturizer as well, since I had some scaly feeling skin around my nose. It's been a couple of weeks and my skin is clearer than it's ever been. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation can help reduce the symptoms of chronic eczema. Exposure under medical supervision can be carefully monitored with the use of specially designed ‘cabinets’ – the person stands in their underwear in the cabinet and fluorescent tubes emit ultraviolet radiation. Thermal burns Scleroderma is a generalised disease which produces fibrosis, degeneration and inflammation of skin and other tissue. People with scleroderma have too much of a protein called collagen.

Topical pimecrolimus reduced the symptoms of atopic dermatitis in placebo-controlled trials. 5 However, it is more expensive than topical corticosteroids, and limited comparative evidence suggests it is less efficacious (see Place in therapy). The PBAC only considered the cost effectiveness of pimecrolimus in patients for whom topical corticosteroids are ill-advised or fail to control dermatitis with intermittent use. 3 Eczema responds well to anti-inflammatory creams. Topical steroids (corticosteroids) come in various strengths and are available by prescription from your doctor. Generally, it is better to use the lowest strength that works adequately. Occlusive emollients consist of oils of non-human origin (wool-fat, mineral oil etc.), either in pure form or mixed with varying amounts of water through the action of an emulsifier to form a lotion or cream. A large variety are available, reflecting that there is no ‘right’ moisturiser for all patients; the most suitable one often having to be found by trial and error. Using high-strength topical steroids for extended periods, especially on delicate areas like the face, can cause side effects, including thinning of the skin. It is best to apply the cream to reddened areas after bathing, but make sure the skin is thoroughly dry. Most people with eczema find that their symptoms are made worse by common aspects of daily living, such as hot weather, frequent showering, soap, ducted central heating and overheating in bed at night. There are things you can do that may help you to better manage your eczema and reduce the frequency of flare-ups. Always see your doctor or dermatologist for further information and advice. Eczema coping tips – good hygiene In July 2006 the PBAC recommended that the authority-required listing of topical pimecrolimus be extended to include adults. 1 The PBAC found that the efficacy and cost effectiveness was acceptable in adults under the authority restrictions (i.e. when topical corticosteroids are inappropriate), based on the results of a new study. 4

Sunscreen should be a last line of defence and used with a rashie, sunglasses, a hat and people should also stay in the shade as much as possible. Sunscreen should be used on top of these measures and applied sensibly, every two hours.” Emollients are often used to help manage dry, itchy or scaly skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and ichthyosis. There is growing evidence that allergens introduced into the body through the skin can lead to the later development of food allergy, asthma and hay fever. Aggressively treating eczema in children and taking steps to restore normal skin barrier function may lower the risk of future development of these conditions. Complications of eczema Pimecrolimus should not be used if there is an existing viral skin infection, as it may be exacerbated. 11 Treat existing bacterial or fungal skin infections before starting pimecrolimus. 16

What is the outcome for crusted scabies?

A person with stubborn eczema may need up to 30 sessions, scheduled 2 or 3 times per week. The risks of unsupervised ultraviolet radiation therapy can be the same as for sunbathing – faster ageing of the skin and greater risk of skin cancer.
