About this deal

There’s an interesting dynamic between the ward’s care leads, Gill’s initially idealistic Dr Valentine and Jennifer Saunders’ more cynical nurse Sister Gilpin, whilst their patients are a charmingly eclectic bunch. But it is facing closure from hardfaced Whitehall bean-counters who want giant cost-efficient hospitals or glitzy “centres of excellence” with measurable success rates.

Jam-packed with jokes about bedpans and the indignities of ageing, Eyre’s film lacks the needling sharpness of something like Jack Thorne’s scathing COVID drama Help, tip-toeing around the specifics of the NHS’ current crises until a powerful yet totally out-of-place pandemic set coda. But there might be something more threatening to the hospital itself, more deadly than the politicians ready to shut down the place at a moment's notice. The ceremony to honour Alma is due to occur that day; before it starts, Mary takes Valentine to one side and shows him a video she took of Alma tending to Molly.A frail incontinent woman named Molly is admitted to the Beth and initially looked after by Valentine, but tended to by Alma the following night.

When a small geriatric hospital in Northern England is threatened with closure, the staff and patients rally together to try and save it.Judi Dench, Jennifer Saunders, Bally Gill, Russell Tovey and more to star in Alan Bennett's Allelujah film". When the geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital is threatened with closure, the hospital decides to fight back by galvanizing the local community: they invite a news crew to film their preparations for a concert in honor of the hospital's most distinguished nurse. Somewhere in the middle, something most accurately described as an unholy cross between an Age UK advert and The Good Nurse takes place. By the film’s end, Dr Valentine is face-masked up in the middle of the pandemic, delivering a bone-rattling monologue about the state of the NHS after the most WTF third act twist we’ve seen since Jamie Dornan confessed a sincere belief that he was a honeybee in Wild Mountain Thyme. Director - Richard Eyre Producer- Damian Jones, Kevin Loader Executive Producer - Jenny Borgars, Rose Garnett, Alan Bennett, Cameron McCracken, Nicholas Hytner Andrea Scarso, Paul Grindey, Charles Moore.
