The pen heats up to extremely hot degrees to melt the filament. If you are not careful, you can end up burning your fingers. Make sure you donít let children below 12 years play with the 3D pen. Older children can be allowed to use the pen with adult supervision. Another popular way to use 3D pens is for prototyping. This could be creating prototypes for new products, small parts or even architectural models. You can then easily draw the plastic on paper, glass, metal or other surfaces. This concept is similar to that of a hot glue gun, just with thinner, colored filament. The 3Doodler Create 2.0 design has been improved to a sleek, shiny metal look. The 3D pen weighs 1.8 ounces, is much slimmer and looks like the conventional pens. The slimmer body allows a firm grip, enabling you to create and excellent doodles and drawings. A flexible rubbery grip at the tip makes the pen easy to hold. Saying this, both 3D pens are a great option for education. They are small enough to carry them around and easy enough to store.A cordless experience would have been better. Alternatively, I would’ve accepted the power port being more towards the bottom, where the plastic loading port is, and the loading port moved closer to the top; this would keep the two areas separate and get the cord out of the way a bit. A: Design-wise a 3D pen looks like a beefed-up and bulkier version of an ordinary pen or pencil; however, instead of being filled with lead or ink, a 3D pen utilizes plastic to create designs and shapes. The 3Doodler filament speed control feature is one of the reasons that make the 3Doodler Create popular on the market. With this feature, you can draw continuously for up to two hours. This is a great feature if you are making complex 3D models. Design: The 3D pen features a new nozzle design that produces crispier doodles and performs better. The pen is less noisy, smooth and easy to operate. Greater control using fast & slow speeds. Fast mode allows you to Doodle big areas faster, & slow mode is perfect for intricate details.

As both pens are designed to be used by children, however the Start+ doesn’t have any exterior hot components. This makes the Start+ extremely safe for youngsters to work with which is why it is rated for kids 6+. Filament This 3D pen is perfect for both beginners and expert 3D artists. Basics

The pen itself is easy to hold and lightweight. You have to keep it plugged in while you use it, so be mindful of the cord while you're doodling. The plastic comes out hot but cools and dries right away. The pen itself does get hot. Touching the metal tip of the pen could cause a burn, so parents should watch younger kids when they're using the 3Doodler. The 3Doodler Create+ is a sleek and pen like, while the 3Doodler Start is a bright blue and more appealing to younger kids. They are also different in their build. When it comes to performance, we tested both quite rigorously and found that the Start+ pen was easier to use than the Create. Almost anything that you can draw on a piece of paper can also be turned into a 3D model to visualize the object better. Final Thoughts

I found some mismatched information in the manual. The pen I tested had two settings: Hi and Low, but pictures of the pen in the manual showed a different model, on which the settings say ABS/FLX and PLA (those are the two different types of plastic filaments, the hi-temp ABS or Flexy plastic and the low-temp PLA plastic). This setting is important, as using the wrong temperature and plastic combination will result in less-than-optimal results. If they don't read the manual and make the connection, though, some users might miss this. Generally, both pens work in the same way. You put your plastic filament into the end of the 3D pen and the pen melts the plastic.I later decreased the temperature of the pen by following the online directions (they don’t specify how many degrees it changes). This made this problem minimal, but it was still consistent.
