About this deal

This brings us to the latest version of LG’s AI Picture Pro image optimisation system. This now joins the best of the automatic picture optimisation systems around, clearly enhancing pretty much every aspect of picture quality from every video source without, crucially, generating really any unwanted side effects.

LG G1 OLED Evo (OLED55G1) review: Picture perfect | Trusted

Contrast is impressively wide-ranging, and colours are dramatically conveyed, especially in Dolby Vision, the presence of which adds a lush, rich tone. It’s a close tussle between this and the Philips OLED+935 when it comes to their respective Dolby Vision performances, but I’d say the LG just edges it with its more natural look. The speediness has a positive effect – reaction time for starts in Moto GP 2021 went from average to super-snappy, and control over the bike was more responsive to the point where it felt like I’d been handed an unfair advantage. LG says it’s possible to drive latency down to 9.6ms for 60Hz content in Boost mode, but it still worked out at 12.5ms. The question of whether you should buy the G1 over the C1 will remain until we can test the latter, but the G1 takes the picture performance of last year’s GX and CX and improves upon it in almost every way without introducing any flaws. That makes it comfortably the best LG OLED that we’ve so far tested, and that is saying something. We use a variety of scenes and screen measuring images designed to represent certain brightness outputs. This makes sure our tests cover the many different things you can watch on your TV. After all, the OLED G1 is providing a 10-20 per cent HDR performance boost to 2020 LG OLED TVs - which were themselves sensational performers. And that's actually a pretty remarkable achievement in a premium TV world now so good that even the tiniest improvements should be embraced like long lost relatives.

For many users and a lot of content, though, I see the much-improved AI Picture Pro system as a pretty irresistible way of adding more drama, sharpness and dynamism to the viewing experience. There are plenty of more expensive TVs with worse viewing angle than this one, but how are the other aspects of picture quality? Find out in our Samsung UE43AU9000KXXU review. How we test the viewing angle Once again, we measured the HDR brightness with the Peak Brightness setting disabled. The screen is dimmer, but there's still some variation, so we suggest leaving it on: Play content in lower resolutions and standard dynamic range and there’s still much to love about the G1’s delivery. The upscaling of 1080p is particularly impressive, with our Fargo Blu-ray being delivered with crisp definition and bags of detail, but without the intentional film grain being exaggerated as it can be from rival sets. It’s worth adding on this point that the OLED65G1’s accurate Cinema and Filmmaker Mode picture presets are the single greatest beneficiaries of the new evo panel, looking much brighter and richer than they’ve ever looked before on an LG OLED TV. This instantly makes them actually feel more rather than less accurate, especially when it comes to HDR sources.

T3 Awards LG G1 (OLED65G1) review: the best OLED TV at the T3 Awards

Only four of the 65-inch TVs we've tested so far this year have scored four stars out of five. Thanks to its impressive luminance at severe angles, it's LG's OLED evo set that takes the gold.

The OLED G1 undoubtedly delivers overall better picture quality than any of LG's 2020 OLED TVs. Whether it delivers as much of an improvement as some quarters might have been hoping for, though, is another question. There’s Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for automatically putting the TV into its Game mode when it detects a gaming signal, while the HGiG standard improves HDRtone-mapping for a more consistent performance. I did notice more detail in the darker parts of an image than I remember seeing before.

The 4K TVs with the best viewing angle - Which? News

Dolby Vision is coming to Xbox Series X and S video gaming later this year too, bolstering LG OLED’s already pretty legendary reputation with high-end gamers. At the time of writing there's a question mark over whether the OLED G1 is sufficiently superior to the upcoming C1 mid-range OLEDs - which don't get the Evo panel - to justify its extra cost. Based on the type of enhancements it brings over last gen's CX models, though, it most likely is a worthy step up from the C1 - if you're looking to wall-mount anyway. OLED TVs have almost become synonymous with LG. The South Korean electronics brand produces the panels that feature in every OLED on the market, and with the LG G1 (OLED55G1), it’s aiming to evolve its own OLEDs further. NanoCell TVs have an extra colour-boosting layer. While we don't always think it provides a clear improvement to vibrancy or colour accuracy over standard LCD TVs, they could be partly responsible for the impressive viewing angle.

LG OLED65G1 Evo OLED TV review | What Hi-Fi?

It’s all very pretty… so long as you actually want to wall hang your TV. If not, you’ll have to pay extra for either a pair of desktop feet, or LG’s new Gallery Floorstand option. That's right: there's no stand in the box. Colours hardly ever look forced or over the top despite the slight brightness increase and marginally purer presentation, and sharpness is slightly improved without making the image look brittle or harsh. With HD sources, in particular, the new Alpha 9 Gen 4 upscaling really earns its corn by delivering a markedly crisper finish than seen with previous LG OLED generations without exaggerating noise.Cinematic Movement offers a semblance of processing but keeps a relatively ‘cinematic’ look. Natural applies more processing, and Smooth Movement is the strongest option.
