The first thing that you notice when you unbox the Bebop 2 is that it is very lightweight – coming in at under 500g. If you're more interested in having fun piloting than nabbing aerial B-roll for your indie film or crisp images for your real estate business, the Bebop 2 is a solid option. That means you need to stop and transfer footage to your phone or computer or pull footage directly from the drone to your phone or tablet using a Wi-Fi connection. A camera drone that can get decent video and photos for sharing, but also survive crashes and do flips with a couple taps on screen. Cameraman: Like a director’s assistant, this mode allows you to take perfect videos and photos effortlessly.

When you compare the blurry, compressed footage to what we shot at identical locations with cameras from DJI and Yuneec, the Bebop is clearly far inferior.Capture your best moments with high precision thanks to the advanced visual recognition technology and the GPS tracking system on your smartphone. And frankly, if high-quality aerial photos and video are what's most important, you're better off with the Phantom 3 Standard. whilst the software is great and will let you fly to it's maximum capability if you are an accomplished pilot, you have to pay more to unlock a Flight Map software and Follow Me modes.

Lens flare is also a common occurrence when flying into the sun or with it coming in from the side of the lens. You pick the videos to include and the software (which uses technology from muvee) generates a 15-second compilation with music (which you can also select). That’s the longest time you can expect in ideal conditions: colder temperatures and higher winds will reduce those times as with any drone. It was a bit more steady when we tried to put it into a steady hover, but due to its lightweight design, even a small breeze could move it around. There’s only 3-axis digital stabilisation, though, rather than the preferable 2-axis stabilisation of the DJI Spark (a third is digitally stabilised).The battery is also detachable and has seen a massive upgrade from the original – in fact, Parrot claim you can now enjoy a full 25 minutes of flying time with the Bebop 2 – this is pretty impressive for a drone of this size and weight. It’s still a good idea to have someone spotting for you when you fly in FPV mode, though, and it’s a requirement of UK drone law that you keep your drone in your line of sight at all times, something you can’t do if a phone is strapped to your face. The Cockpitglasses 2 have a newly improved design that collapses down to make them easier to transport.

The Bebop 2 received the worst score of 3 in our ease of use metric, well behind the top score of 9. That unit has a Wi-Fi range extender on top, which let me fly the Bebop 2 out to roughly 550 meters with full control and only small hiccups in my video feed. The broad, 90-degree field of vision offered by the Parrot Cockpitglasses lenses gives you total immersion.
