About this deal

You will appreciate having the higher frequency of 10 kHz for a better ability to find a wider range of targets. The adjustable frequency provides more good target options and better accuracy in the field. It is important to note that the Ace 400 has target identification features for u.s. coins. The garrett ace 400i is the international version of this metal detector and not designed for use in the United States. Everything is labeled, and the display is simple – but you'll have to squint in direct sunlight. The key buttons are plus and minus toggles for mode, prejudice, and sensitivity. There are also audio and frequency control buttons made of iron. Because who wants to waste their day out on the hunt sifting through garbage? By adjusting the iron discrimination settings displayed on the screen, you can accurately capture valuable targets from fields loaded with junk iron. None of the other models in the ACE series have this feature, which makes the ACE 400 rank among high-end detectors despite its reduced price. In comparison to other metal detectors, Garrett’s ACE metal detectors have basic control boxes that are identical. Everything is labeled, and the display is clear – albeit you’ll have to squint in harsh sunshine. Mode, discrimination, and sensitivity are all important toggles. There are other controls for audio and frequency. Audio The build is comprised of three-shaft parts with the upper and middle ones made of a lightweight aluminum alloy that’s imbued with a wear-resistant finish. The bottom shaft is made from tough plastic to keep the detector light and free from scratches.

This is a feature-rich detector with all the bells and whistles you could ever need to solve prospecting issues you’re experiencing. The control panel features tons of adjustable settings to improve your chances of success regardless of the environment you’re working in. In terms of the design, the Garrett ACE 400i looks a lot like the other ACE models with the exception of a cross-shaped coil. This metal detector consists of a shaft, a PRO Performance 8.5″ x 11” DD coil, and a 400i control box. The shaft ends in a comfortable arm rest that comes equipped with an adjustable Velcro strap. There is also a coil cover available which can be snapped on with ease. Higher frequency metal detectors have shorter wavelengths and are better for finding small things like tiny gold nuggets whereas lower frequencies penetrate further into the ground. DisplayOther characteristics differentiate the two metal detectors as well, with the AT Pro emerging as the superior metal detector. Summary The Garrett ACE 400 features a three-tone audio device that emits three distinct tones based on the conductivity of the metal detected. You'll hear the signature bell tone when you detect metal with a higher conductivity, whereas metals with a lower conductivity will emit either a low-pitched or a medium-pitched tone. Higher numbers (50-99): Usually non-ferrous metals with high conductivity, such as copper, silver, and large brass or bronze objects. Coins, large silver items, and relics made from these metals will generally produce higher numbers. As we conclude our exploration of the Garrett ACE 400 Target ID numbers, it’s evident that mastering this feature can truly enhance your treasure hunting experience.

This detector uses 4 standard AA batteries which are included. They are not rechargeable but feel free to buy your own rechargeable batteries. Expect to get 20-30 hours of use time depending on your settings and if you use headphones or not. Garrett’s numeric ID scores the target metal on a scale of 0-99 and gives you a depth indication. This tells you what you’ve found and how far down it is before digging. Ground Balance Metal detectors aren’t hard to find, but these essentials shouldn’t be overlooked when buying one. Weight and Length Higher frequency of 10 kHz provides better sensitivity on low and medium-conductivity targets such as gold and leadThis is great if you’re hunting with a friend who also has the ACE 400 – or even a different brand detector operating at the same frequency. The detectors will end up detecting each other if you get too close. Despite its shortcomings, we still recommend this detector. The ACE line, as a whole, offers great flexibility. This detector is easy to use and performs well in wet environments.

The company markets the coil as the one that doesn’t require any additional protective case. Yet, I bought a plastic coil cover for my ACE 400. Well, experience has proven that it came in handy. The ACE 300 has the 7” x 10” concentric PROformance and the 400 has a larger 8” x 11” DD PROformance coil. There’s really no difference apart from some additional iron discrimination features to handle the highly mineralized soil conditions found in Europe. For the average user who doesn’t need a waterproof detector, the biggest advantage by far is the automatic ground balance in the AT Pro.
