About this deal

Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combination is the companion volume to Reinfeld's 1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate. It is your responsibility to make sure that your operating equipment is compatible with the relevant software or video DVD before purchasing and that software purchased is functionally adequate for your needs. Strong club players should be able to solve most of the exercises from the diagram at first attempt. if anyone has ever run 1001 through an engine; or can address whether you they make more sense when you are a tactics superhero- I'm interested.

This book should have been rewritten by a qualified chess trainer for youngsters removing a lot of ordinary stones from the diamonds -- and adding some instructive comments here and there. Other similar books are the Ultimate Chess Puzzle Book by Grandmaster John Emms, and Chess, 5334 Problems, Combinations, and Games, by Laszlo Polgar, the father of the famed Polgar sisters. The next day I put it in an engine and it said after Bxf7 Black would even be a tiny bit better with Nxf7 and not Rxf7 which would be a blunder. There are so many opportunities in chess missed or overlooked because of the blind valuation of the pieces, and this really helps you see past materialism to win in apparently even sutuations. and I get in more trouble for playing 'it almost works'; that kind of guessing is good for puzzles and a awful habit for games.Thereby, adding to your knowledge, to make you a strong chessplayer, and finally, to delight you with some of the most beautiful moves ever played. I do not want to work on 1001 Combinations and Sacrifices by Fred Reinfeld as many of it solutions have mistakes. Would be interested to hear how The Ultimate Chess Puzzle Book, and its sibling, The Giant Chess Puzzle Book (both with 1000 puzzles) compare to the Reifeld books if anyone knows. The current "Chess Lovers Library" reprint is a photographic reproduction of the original, and the some of the black pieces merge into the black squares on some of the diagrams.

Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations is the companion volume to Reinfeld's 1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate. Most difficult are the examples that run seven moves and more; some of these may even stump an ordinary master. Whilst it is very useful to look at positions like this one of the problems of chess is that real games do not come with "white to win in 2" guidance so when you are told that this combination contains a pin it is not a realistic analytical situation.

Two books that I would recommend are "Chessercizes" by Bruce Pandolfini, and "Chess Tactics for Students" by John Bain. I have used this book on several occasions to prepare for USCF tournaments, usually after a playing layoff. some (well ok many) of 1001 'tactics' come out of thin air and don't make much sense -maybe they will when i'm stronger?

I have both Fred Reinfeld's 1,001 Winning Sacrifices and Combinations and 1,001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate books. I still think it's very good though - part of the issue may be that I play almost entirely blitz when I play, so there's just not enough time to do the deeper calculation that I do when I'm solving Reinfeld problems. This classic problem book by Master Reinfeld is an well-organized and excellent set of problems for beginner to advanced intermediate players. Guess am just too visual a person to overlook this, even though I've heard many chess players say how good the puzzles themselves are.

The positions are well chosen, and have the feel of real game positions that you could actually meet, rather than rare and unrepresentative curiosities. So, the object of this book is to add to your knowledge, to make you a strong chessplayer, and (last but not least) to delight you with some of the most beautiful moves ever played on the chessboard.
