About this deal

The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot is a remarkably good novel. That being said, the voice acting of Sheila Reid and Rebecca Benson takes the story to a new level. The accents are beautiful, and the emotions are pure. If you are fortunate enough to have a choice, listen to this book. You will want the narrator’s voices speaking Lenni, Margot, and Father Arthurs words. This is one of those cases where the voice actors take the story to an entirely new level. Book Club and Discussion Questions (SPOILERS) But there were two numbers in front of me that mattered, and would matter for the rest of my numbered days. An amusing chance encounter between Lenni and Margot, followed by an actual meeting in the new art therapy class sees an unlikely blossoming friendship form. Together they decide to paint one hundred paintings, each representing a story from their combined lives – 83 pictures for Margot, 17 for Lenni, 100 in total.

So we find out about Lenni’s first and only kiss, and when it might be appropriate to kiss someone. We hear stories from Margot’s life, including her life-long relationship with anti-vivisection campaigner Meena, her first marriage to Johnny and her much later second marriage to Humphrey. Ok…. one more thing: and not the books fault — but I’ve read a few books recently that I soooo passionately loved, [“The Paper Palace”, and a few others], that I find myself still wishing for that ‘gut-exciting’ rush-read. Lenni, já te aconteceu perder algo importante como as chaves de casa, os óculos ou o telemóvel e… procurares, procurares, procurares… até que… já frustrada e esgotada… finalmente desistes?!The book contain stories both by Lenni and Margot about their lives which they tell each other. Both have a positive outlook despite being terminal. Lenni shares her quirky views on people and life.

Such a delight! I fell head over heels for Lenni and Margot, their wit and vibrancy and marvellous outlooks on life. An utter joy' ABBIE GREAVESLenni is a terminally ill 17 year old Swedish native who will spend the remainder of her short life in the Glasgow Princess Royal Hospital. Although she is dying, she is not inclined to spend the rest of her life in the sterile hospital room where her daily visitors consist only of doctors and nurses. She heads to the hospital chapel to break up the monotony of dying. There, she meets the soon-to-be-retired Father Arthur.

This is a nonromantic love story. It is heartfelt and a joy to read. Yes, it did make me cry, as a matter of fact from 87% on. If you are seeking a substantive yet fast read loaded with feelings, this one is for you. Nothing about The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot worked for me. The premise sounds incredible: Lenni and Margot have a combined age of 100 years. They will each paint one picture for every year that they have been alive.Margot is an 83 year old woman who is terminally ill with a heart condition. She meets Lenni and they decide to complete 100 paintings in the art therapy room at the hospital. Each painting represents one of their combined 100 years. The author presents each year in the form of Margot or Lenni telling the other the story of that year. Through these moments, they relive their lives together. Margot tells her life story – full of loss, reinvention, and all the different types of love she has experienced. A big thank you to Marianne Cronin, Harper Perennial, and NetGalley for providing a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for this honest review. No-one knows that better than seventeen-year-old Lenni. But as she is about to learn, it's not only what you make of life that matters, but who you share it with. I have to drag myself out of there and remember that that is not the type of terminal meant for me.
