About this deal

Cleansing balms in general are great for people with dry skin due to their hydrating formulas, but they’re certainly not all created equal. While some have drier, more crumbly textures, others—like this one—are richer and more oily. Formulated with a blend of nourishing oils, like avocado, jojoba, and clove leaf oils, it’s no surprise that this formula is pretty oily on the skin. One thing to note, though, is that because it’s infused with so many essential oils, it does feel a bit oily. Our tester has oily, acne-prone skin and enjoyed using it, albeit sparingly. She thinks it's best suited for those with normal to dry skin.

Beyond its ease of use, our tester also says that this cleansing balm is incredibly hydrating. “This cleanser has been fantastic for me because it thoroughly cleans without drying out my skin — my complexion actually feels more moisturized and supple after using it,” she shares. We appreciated that this gel-like cleansing balm felt soft and comforting on our skin, but it wasn’t oily enough to effectively break down and remove makeup. Texture. I like how this feels creamier and more luxurious than an oil cleanser. It’s incredibly spreadable too so a little goes a long way. You scoop a small amount of product from the tub, massage it on your face, emulsify with a little bit of water, then rinse. And yes, it does come with mineral oil. As you may have heard, mineral oil is a very sensitive topic because it has gotten a bad rap over the years as a cosmetic ingredient. I have my opinions about mineral but that's for another post at another time. All I have to say for now is that my studies at esthetician school have verified that mineral oil that is used in cosmetics is not harmful and is a great formula used to gently deep clean and remove debris from the face. Cleansing balms are cleansers that use oils and emollients to remove dirt, makeup, and buildup from the day without the need for harsh scrubbing," says board-certified dermatologist Carmin Castilla. "They are able to cleanse without stripping the skin of its natural oils and damaging your skin barrier." While most skin types will still want to go in with your usual face wash after using a cleansing balm, these formulas make the entire getting unready process so much easier. The Banila Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm has a number of amazing ingredients. Among them, you will find a bamboo extract which is an antioxidant with soothing properties. It helps protect skin against UV damage and stimulates the production of collagen. In addition, acerola is a type of cherry known for its high levels of vitamin C. It rejuvenates the skin and soothes it. There has been some healthy controversy surrounding them due to a few studies finding paraben presence in breast tumours and breast tissue. However, the majority of the scientific community have deemed these findings non-conclusive due to the limitations of these studies. If your regular makeup routine includes liquid eyeliner, waterproof mascara, and a full-coverage foundation that promises to last all day, we’d bet that you’ve felt challenged to remove it at least once in your life. On one hand, that’s great, because it means that you’ve finally found products that live up to their all-day claims; on the other, it’s not so great, because it might prompt you to rub and scrub your complexion to smithereens in hopes of getting it clean. Even the most natural scents can cause irritation if they’re not truly natural, or if they’re the byproduct of ultra-strong essential oils. With that in mind, consider your complexion and how it reacts before opting for a product that has a notable scent. Generally speaking, no scent is the best scent. Paula's Choice Omega+ Complex Cleansing Balm is a step above for a few reasons: For starters, it comes in a squeeze tube, which makes it more convenient than most of the other cleansing balms on this list. Additionally, it’s fragrance-free, so it’s very gentle, making it great for all skin types, but especially those that are more sensitive/reactive. It’s safe to say I’m now a convert. I’ve tried and tested multiple cleansing balms since – including the Alpha-H Melting Moment Cleansing Balm and Banila Co Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm – and my favourite thing about them is that they do just remove all traces of make-up (and even the most stubborn mascara) with a grape-sized amount of product.
