Here is an un-retouched photo I took of myself wearing this clean sunscreen beneath my make-up at the end of the day. As you can see there is a little shine breakthrough but it’s really minimal. As a result, please note this is only an experimental label that can be best used to possible identify problematic products you have used in the past. It is in no way a perfect identifier nor a predictor in whether or not it will exacerbate or cause fungal acne. It will continue to be worked on as more information and research comes to light. And that’s how it looks with makeup on top. As you can see, I could hide the whitening effect of the sunscreen but, I’m not sure that a darker skin tone than mine can achieve the same result…

This natural, organic sunscreen from Madara is suitable for body and face and is a similar texture to the facial one above. It smells lovely but isn’t the easiest to rub in – like a rich body lotion, it leaves a bit of a white residue on the skin, which does sinks in after a short while. It’s moisturising, but not too greasy.
How does suncream work?
The EU Allergen Free label is for the 26 ingredients identified by the EU SCCS and products will be only flagged if a suspected ingredient is on it's ingredient list. It is possible for cosmetics to contain one of the suspect ingredients without it appearing on the ingredient list due to it not reaching the concentration threshold to disclose it and cosmetic manufacturers choice to not disclose it.

But an effective sunscreen that is nice to wear and doesn’t mess up my makeup is like the Holy Grail! The brand’s “clean” approach is also great, especially if you are sensitive to this kind of argument (you know, I’m quite mixed on the topic). My favourite clean facial sunscreen is REN Clean Screen as it’s a pleasure to use and gives a nice level of protection. For body, I like the Jason Family Sunscreen as it’s easy to use and has a high SPF, but I will try the Kids version next in the hope that it doesn’t sting the kids’ eyes. Although I do like all of the Madara clean sunscreens, and generally love their products, I’d rather have one tube we can all use, and prefer a higher level of SPF for my kids. It’s indeed quite rare to find a sunscreen with high protection (here, an SPF30) that doesn’t use silicones and/or alcohol in its formula. They indeed make it possible to considerably lighten the texture and avoid the greasy feeling that you usually have with sunscreen with mineral filters. I found it too drying and my skin felt dry and taut. Using less is far more comfortable, but to me, defeats the purpose of wearing a sunscreen.
