About this deal

Call and write your political representatives to let them know what you want and how you want them to represent your needs It follows that to commit a crime and claim it with pride by bragging about it with your peers is strictly rooted in this cultural humus, which has very little to do with traditional patriarchy. While the first one was originally meant as a way to organise a certain kind of society where any individuals should have a specific, fixed role based on their gender, the newest one is strictly individualistic; in other words, it is based on how to become the most influential person within a small inner circle at the detriment of women or other marginalised people. Looking for a fifth wave If we look for a definition of patriarchy, reliable dictionaries (see here or here), the latter will more or less always provide the same definition: We’re tired of it. We’re tired of the patriarchy. We’re tired of not being heard, of not being believed. We’re tired of the political song and dances performed in an attempt to keep us quiet instead of actually creating change. As a matter of a fact, the term patriarchy is too generic. As stressed by the journalists Eliza Anyangwe and Melissa Mahtani:

A social system in which the father is head of the household, having authority over women and children, and in which lineage is traced through the male line Also, before we begin, it is necessary to stress that some of the topics explored here could easily hurt the sensibilities of some persons, especially the ones who have experienced violence. On the other hand, I feel the need to express my opinion on such a delicate topic since it is not through silence that things will change, nor by trivialising the discourses related to violence against women. Stop telling boys and men they aren’t allowed to be emotional and hold space for them when they areThe patriarchy is a system that hurts both men and women. Case in point: I just finished reading Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik. It outlines how throughout Ginsburg’s service, she has fought for equal rights for both men and women, making sure that gender does not preclude anyone from equal opportunity. For example, it was once common for stay-at-home dads not to receive health or life insurance benefits from the working wife’s employer because it was assumed the man works and the woman stays home with the kids. Clearly, this does a disservice to the many men who choose to assume that role, just as it was once a disservice to women that they could not be employed outside of the home. The famous meme that was inspired by the movie Mean Girls says "On Wednesdays, we smash the patriachy". This is indeed a catchy phrase and has certainly the merit of transmitting in a pleasant and captivating way a message of universal sisterhood and solidarity, yet, perhaps, it should be more appropriate to say " we smash the patriarchies", by using the plural. I should probably clarify a common misunderstanding before I go about the business of suggesting ways to dismantle the patriarchy. Oxford Dictionaries defines patriarchy as a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it. If you’re thinking this is feminist rhetoric, you only have to look around to see that men hold more power than women in most places. This is the patriarchy. Furthermore, feminism is not about man-hating or penis envy or burning bras. For those of us who are already woke, the idea that feminism is any of that probably just got a hard eye roll. But many people identify feminism with anger, radical feminism, and militant feminism. And, yes, sometimes angry, militant, and radical describe how we feel about certain issues. But it’s not the sum of who we are, and smashing the patriarchy is doing a thing that will also benefit men. Rather, the problem is to highlight how the same language and discourses adopted by Mafia ideological self-presentation seem to collide with certain opinions recurring in the mainstream discourse concerning violence against women, where the rhetoric “of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” is too frequently invoked as the sole method to face the worst outputs of sexism.

According to us, any form of patriarchy is bad. We strongly believe that understanding these variations is crucial for a comprehensive analysis of gender relations and social structures.Personally, I have had diverse work experience with both associations involved in reparative justice and as a school teacher, and my feeling is that there is a “new” type of patriarchy that is strictly rooted in a specific modern ideology. The rhetoric of being a “leader at all costs”, “a certain kind of person”, or “the one who is able to affect and control the lives of others”, has nowadays become a popular topic, almost an obsession. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with being ambitious and striving for your own success but, maybe, something is getting out of hand. Identify as a feminist, and educate people that feminism simply means equal rights for all genders not “hating men” or less rights for men Patriarchy is certainly around us and undeniably it is a pervasive problem (for both women and men and, of course, for all the people belonging to the LGBTQI community) but we have also to consider that there is not just one type of patriarchy and that not all patriarchies are the same.

No two patriarchal societies will look exactly the same as cultures and norms are shaped by different factors, such as geography, language, and religion – and also, because the demands and strides made by feminist movements all over the world are not identical. The future is not female. The future is not queer. The future is anyone who is ready to smash the patriarchy and be ready for a revolution.Use your white privilege to end your white privilege by using your voice and platform (if you’re white) Yet, it is important to stress that it is something much more complex than that. Patriarchy is a multifaceted phenomenon that can take on different forms depending on the cultural, historical, and contextual factors at play.
