About this deal

First off, it's incomplete with a great deal of the screenplay written as notes and such (and with William Goldman being a bit more of a seller than storyteller . If the beginning of the book is like a casual conversation over a cup of coffee, the final third of the book is like he turned to you and said, ‘You know what? The only thing that would make this book better, in my opinion, is if he'd written it five years later--so he could discuss The Princess Bride. He has written, co-written or consulted on vehicles for towering movie stars including Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Michael Douglas, Dustin Hoffman, Laurence Olivier, Matt Damon, James Caan, Clint Eastwood and Anthony Hopkins.

foutrement bien écrit, concis et très pratique sans donner de « trucs » enrubannés sensés faire de votre petit scénario de rien du tout un chef-d'œuvre digne de Steinbeck.Goldman could almost have saved us the 400-pages of what is still one of the most insightful books about the movie-industry, and just printed his Law on a single page at the front. Part Two: Adventures" has stories from 11 projects that Goldman has been involved with, from Charly and Masquerade, to the Academy Award-winning Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President's Men, to some projects that remained unrealised, such as a musical remake of Grand Hotel. How Goldman came up with the ideas for scripts from real events such as Butch Cassidy, the homosexual maneating lions from The Ghost and the Darkness (Michael Douglas would probably be one of the people pissed off by Goldman's book. His comments about his wife in the additional 'Princess' texts came off as the distantly personal jokes a comedian would make about people they know (one could also consider that the two are not married any longer), but when it comes to stories Goldman is all heart. If survival in the Hollywood film industry is possible, then there is no better "survival guide" than this book, because Goldman tells it like it is. That'll unlock bonus content for you, too — including Mel's secret book reviews and Dave's behind-the-scenes notes for the latest Two Truths and a Lie.It's probably the most personal thing I've ever read about the loneliness of sitting down by yourself and putting something down on blank paper (or screen, whatever). Where did you get excited and visualize the imagery and where did you throw the book across the room with boredom. Published way back in 1987, some of its references are wonderfully dated, but it’s still one of the best books about screenwriting ever written. Este se centra en la parte inicial en comentar parte de esas vivencias que supongo no tuvieron cabida en el primer volumen. Two big bonuses of this book: Goldman provides his entire screenplay of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and then analyzes what worked and what didn't.

He adapted three screenplays from his own novels including The Princess Bride, Marathon Man, and Heat. The usual shit, oh oh oh, violent movies did it-no, rap music-no, TV-no, the Internet-no, blank did it (fill in your own medium). The paperback version of the first book also comes with his full-length screenplay of Butch ; his collected works are also worth checking out). Apart from these issues, which are as much about opinion differences as anything else, I loved the book.

It’s easier, as the audience dumbs down and expects less, to be satisfied with less than our best work. At the services, someone expressed surprise at the number of people present, to which the reply came, ‘Give the public what they want, and they’ll turn out. Writing in the wake of the "Heaven's Gate" disaster which shook the confidence of almost everyone in Hollywood (1982), Goldman still manages to end the book on an upbeat and hopeful note. He also shows examples of scripts and ideas that DON’T work and explains why — at least why HE can’t make them work and that’s an important point he makes throughout the book.Between all the self-aggrandizing and payback that Willy skillfully disguises as friendly banter, he throws in some screenwriting advice. I only know I've read this book before, years ago, because I remembered a single detail from this screenplay (one I'm still not sure is possible). It's a creepy, well-acted psychological thriller, so I'm curious why Goldman doesn't even mention it.
