About a week went by and it got super cold out and she was on our back porch and it was late at night so I decided to bring her in, even though I already had 4 cats at the time. We know we still have to watch them but now with out worry that the could jump through an open window.
I tried everything from plastic garden mesh (simply because it was available off the roll at the garden centre) to pvc coated wire mesh, again available from the garden centre. I am appreciating the breeze tonight with open windows and have some very happy cats flat out on the window sills.
