About this deal

The Yamaha C40 comes pre-strung with nylon strings, perfect for achieving that warm and mellow classical guitar sound. Nylon strings are not only gentle on your fingers, making them ideal for beginners, but they also produce a rich and expressive tone that is suitable for a wide range of musical genres. Specifications Body & Bridge The sound of a guitar is limited by the quality of its construction. Beginner guitars are mass produced in factories. This keeps costs low (Yamaha builds its C series in Indonesia) but, without a luthier handcrafting the instrument, there’s naturally a higher number of minor faults. The body The C40 is a student grade classical guitar that has impressive specs on paper, but what we want to know, is how it performs in the real world. In this KillerGuitarRigs Guide, we put the Yamaha C40 to the test. There’s a world of choice when it comes to strings and they can change the sound of the guitar. I’ve strung my C40 with Savarez 500 CR Corum New Cristal strings. Bought thos for my son who played classical guitar in high school and who is legally blind. Though he's been playing piano as of late I know he still loves the guitar. So I bought him the Yamaha C40II classical nylon string guitar. I'm not a guitar player but drummer but been around lots of guitars. But I can play a few simple chords, so I know what a good and bad guitar sounds & looks like construction wise. This guy is excellent to start off with, it's a full scale so if you have small or petite hands I suggest you move down to 3/4 scale.

The Yamaha C40 is one of the best budget classical guitars out there, but it always makes sense to consider other options before making a final decision. Here are some excellent alternatives for your consideration: Cordoba Protégé C1M Cordoba-Protege-C1M As for color, it was listed as Natural, but we found it to have a light vintage tint in reality. Despite not actually having a natural finish, we quite liked the finish. If the action is set too low, it can cause buzzing (where the strings rattle against the frets). The rosewood fretboard felt great under the fingers, and for us was one of the biggest highlights of the whole guitar. We were also impressed by the finish on the fret edges – there were no sharp edges, burrs, or any sign of fret sprout, all things that regularly occur on guitars at this price point, but Yamaha’s QA has been extremely effective in this area. The C40 is the guitar that thousands of students around the world have learned to play on over many years. It’s hard to argue with its success. The C40MII is the all matt finish variation of one of Yamaha's most inexpensive full-size classical models, C40II. An ultra-thin natural satin finish create a rich, natural sound and incredible feel. The Yamaha C40II is the successor to the discontinued C40. Almost every single thing about the C40 is inherited by the C40II, with a slight difference in the tonewood and hardware used. The C40II is a more durable iteration and a perfect companion to carry around, whether it is for traveling, camping, or out-of-state visits. We don't make a left-hand version of the C40 Classical Guitar. Although it might be possible to have a C40 modified to be a left-hand instrument, for beginners we'd highly recommend a non-left-hand model guitar regardless of whether the player is left or right handed. Thank you for your interest in the C40 Classical Guitar. Generally, classical guitars are played without plectrums - instead classical guitarists usually play with their fingers directly on the strings. The Yamaha C40 is marketed directly at beginner level players. Being full size, it is ideally suited to the adult beginner, or to children stepping up from ¾ size models. It’s a small detail, but adding the extra four dots would be more helpful for beginners. There are also no guitar strap buttons, as the C40 is marketed at classical guitar students who only play in a seated position. With a sound and feel that is way above the humble price tag, Yamaha's C40 classical guitar is understandably the first choice for students of classical technique everywhere. Schools love it, teachers love it and those with a burgeoning interest in all things nylon strung love it because they can dip a tow into the classical world and score themselves a good guitar without spending a large sum of money. The Yamaha C40 features a glossy body finish in a natural colour, giving it a stunning and elegant appearance. The gloss finish not only enhances the guitar's aesthetics but also adds a layer of protection, ensuring that your guitar stays in great condition for years to come. The natural colour showcases the beautiful wood grain of the spruce top and meranti body, giving the guitar a timeless and classic look. Versatile and reliable string selection

An alternative to the C40 Mk II would be our CG122 Classical Guitar - it's the same size as the C40 Mk II, but crucially it has a solid tonewood top. This hugely improves the resonance (and therefore the warmth and richness) of the guitar's sound compared to a laminate top as the C40 Mk II has (where - to keep an affordable price - the top is actually made up of many layers of wood strips and glues which work against the natural resonance of the guitar). In turn, because it sounds so good, beginners often enjoy playing for longer at a time - helping them to progress. You can read more here So, overall for the price I think its a nice little guitar...I got the bundle with the soft case - but I am sure if you are serious about this kind of stuff, this will not last very long, I would aim higher.I recently bought a second-hand Yamaha C40 to run it through its paces. I’ve analyzed every aspect of the instrument to reveal its strengths and weaknesses.

These modestly priced instruments offer a level of craftsmanship, quality, performance, tone, and playability that only Yamaha can provide in this range. Great instruments for beginners and young learners.

Wonderful product, crisp sound, good build, did not struggle to replace guitar strings and found all included accessories were made to a high quality.
