About this deal

If you think the Book of the New Sun needed more sword duels and ship to ship space combat, try Empire of Silence. I was a master of make-believe by age ten, and when the time was right, both passions fused into my debut novel, also set in Ancient Rome.

Chief amongst these mortal combatants is Russell Crowe's, a hero of mythological stance, whose raw aggression on the battlefront, coupled with his powerful expressions (combating and not combating, his silent moments from his execution to his first brawl in the arena are his best) and compelling heroics earned him a well earned Oscar. Her sister lucilla and Gracchus try to help Maximus to escape but he is caught by Commodus soldiers and becomes a prisoner again. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do.Reduced to slavery, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor. Quinn crafted a novel full of rich characters who sometimes made poor choices, or had their choices made for them all the while set against the beautiful background of ancient Rome, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a novel. This kind of book which the protagonist died in the end, it is no common what made me feel really surprised, so I can say that I liked this book.

The book is 700 plus pages and covers some of my favorite sci-fi romance tropes: alien abduction, space opera, and alien gladiator. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.I must admit I read this when I was in a very fragile state of mind having just suffered a terrible tragedy of my own, so it’s possible that affected my reading of A Day of Fire and how I responded to it, but I know it was extremely well written and I was so glad to have read it.

Informative enhanced with the inclusion of maps, tables, figures, and pictures, "The Real Gladiator: The True Story of Maximus Decimus Meridius" is an inherently fascinating read and one that will have special and enduring appeal for readers with an interest in Roman history, politics, gladiatorial combat, and military actions. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Abducted from Earth and transported to a slave planet in an unknown galaxy, Lumen finds herself, shackled, naked and put on display before an alien horde.Maximus is a loyal and brave soldier, betrayed by Commodus, his life destroyed, but determined to have revenge on the man responsible for the death of his family. For more than 600 years, people flocked to arenas to watch these highly-trained warriors participate in a blood-soaked spectacle that was part sport, part theatre, and part cold-blooded murder.

It's a short read and if you haven't seen Gladiator in a while, or feel that it's not your cup of tea, then take a few hours to enjoy the book. He lands up in the Emperor’s court, where everyone is plotting to succeed the Emperor, sometimes with deadly intentions! Gladiator has remained in print through several decades, with editions including hardcovers from Shakespeare House (1951), and Hyperion Press (1974, ISBN 0-88355-124-1, with an introduction by Sam Moskowitz), and paperback editions from Avon Books (1949 and 1957), Lancer Books (1958, 1965, 1967, 1973, and 1985), Manor Books (1976), the University of Nebraska Press imprint Bison Books (2004, with an introduction by Janny Wurts, ISBN 0-8032-9840-4), Disruptive Press (2004), and Blackmask (2004, ISBN 1-59654-013-3, ISBN 978-1-59654-013-2). Season 2 Episode 2 of the television show Fringe, entitled " Night of Desirable Objects", may have been inspired by the novel Gladiator.I. Jane, White Squall, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, Thelma and Louise, Black Rain, Someone to Watch Over Me, Legend, Blade Runner, Alien, The Duellist, and the forthcoming Hannibal (2000). The author has taken the unusual route of comparing and contrasting the Hollywood epic ‘Gladiator’ with the many examples of Roman military life and history to deliver an excellent study of the period depicted in the film. Maximus, the Commander of the Roman Army in the North, became slave, Commodus became the New Emperor of Rome, and Lucilla, Commodus`s sister, became prisoner of her brother. She drew in a breath and read the title out loud: ‘The defeat of Boudicca, the fearsome ruler of the Iceni who burnt Londinium to the ground.
