About this deal

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author. Box and contents This highly-detailed minifig-scale model of an ENGEL injection moulding machine is also excellent and, if it were available more readily, could be used in bulk to populate a model of a LEGO factory. Three dinosaurs, one made from Duplo, one from System pieces and one from Technic, take centre stage in the masterpiece gallery. A single manual provides instructions for all five which is perhaps a missed opportunity given how they could have been built concurrently had they had their own separate books.

The conveyer belt, upon which there's a pair of roller skates, a video game controller, a gold statue and a yellow car, slides in and out through a hole in the wall. I'm not quite sure why, though, given they are normally fixed. Nevertheless, if you have the first one you'll probably want this one too. I just hope there's something you still need to buy at LEGO.com next month! The instructions for both this and 40564 Winter Elves Scene suggest that they are designed to be butted up next to each other but to be honest it looks a bit odd. The only thing they have in common is the width of their bases.

Brick Moulding Machine

The tree of creativity is in the centre of the main staircase of the building, towering up to the masterpiece gallery on the top floor. Among its branches are models depicting different product lines from LEGO's history, and it's topped with a crane that symbolises that the company's history is still under construction. Several renditions of the LEGO house have been produced over the years, from the definitive 21037 LEGO House to the tiny 854015 LEGO House Magnet. This one sits somewhere in between in terms of size. It's just about big enough to be able to model the distinctively designed building reasonably accurately. A solitary elf armed with a paintbrush toils away at a workbench while Santa oversees the operation with the help of a computer on a shelf by the window. It's a delightful scene! It's certainly a hefty GWP: the box, which is styled like those of the larger models, is deeper and heavier than those of most free gifts. The completed model comprises a section of Santa's workshop with walls on two sides. Sliding doors on one of them allow ingress of raw materials and what I presume is a conveyer belt behind a wooden door on the other is provided for the dispatch of finished presents.

Santa’s Workshop depicts a cutout of Santa’s Workshop, which looks like a barn and includes a worktable where an Elf can be seen painting a figurine and wrapping it up.The doors on the end of the barn slide open and a pair of handles inside, like those on the exterior, prevent them from being removed completely. It's the weakest of the five models, simply because it's too small to be able to do the subject justice, although the mini yellow castle made from about 8 pieces is cute, as is the fire engine with just 6.
