This is a fascinating, funny and moving Victorian-era novel featuring Hetty Feather. Hetty Feather is a Foundling Hospital girl and was given her name when she was left there as a baby by her mother. But she always longed to be called Sapphire, after her sapphire-blue eyes. When she is reunited with her mother, she hopes her new name, Sapphire Battersea, will also mean a new life! But life doesn't always go as planned...Follow the twists and turns of Hetty's adventure as she goes out to work as a maid for a wealthy man. She longs to be reunited with her childhood sweetheart Jem - but also finds a new sweetheart, Bertie the butcher's boy, who whisks her away from her household chores to experience the delights of the funfair! But Hetty's life may also take a darker path. Can she cope with the trials ahead? About This Edition ISBN: Sapphire Battersea is all about what comes next for Hetty. Hetty's life is never going to be without adventure, mischief and mayhem. Here is what the book is really about... Redhead in Green: Hetty makes her first formal dress out of green velvet, which can be seen on the cover of Sapphire Battersea. I think the characters in this book were excellently written, and I felt Hetty next to me, telling me about all the strange things and scary or funny happenings in her life. I felt Bertie telling me jokes, and Hetty raising her eyebrows. After spending most of her childhood cooped up in the Foundling Hospital, Hetty is often confused, scared and in awe by the outside world. As she settles into her job, Hetty becomes a secretary of sorts to Mr. Buchanan, copying his stories as Mr. Buchanan's handwriting is hard to read. In return, Mr. Buchanan agrees to help refine Hetty's memoir, and to supply Hetty with stamps so she can continue to write to her mother.

Ida Battersea: Kitchen maid of the Foundling Hospital and Hetty's mother. After their relationship is found out, Ida is fired and sent away to the seaside town of Bignor to be a housekeeper to the elderly Miss Roberts. Ida is diagnosed with consumption and it eventually claims her life. Hetty originally plans to become a writer but learns to love performing in the circus and on stage. Her search for identity, both as an individual and as part of a family, is what primarily characterises the book series. This book carries on right where book 1 finishes, Hetty is now 14 and getting ready to leave the Children's Foundling hospital, fully trained and ready to go into work as a servant, she doesn't want the life of a servant but she knows it's the only way to stay close to her mother. However just before she leaves her mother is discovered and sent away, alone again Hetty fears what will become of her. Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. She is now one of Britain’s bestselling and most beloved children’s authors. She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. More than forty million copies of her books have been sold. Hetty Feather is the protagonist of the Hetty Feather book trilogy. She also appears in the spinoffs Diamond, Little Stars and Hetty Feather's Christmas, as well as Clover Moon and Dancing the Charleston.

Ida Battersea - Hetty's devoted mother who is fired from her job in the Foundling Hospital after it is discovered that she is Hetty's real mother. With the help of Mrs Smith, she gets a new job in Bignor but later dies of Influenza. She also finds a potential love interest in Bertie, the local butcher's boy, who takes her out to the fair, on a boat ride, and for a walk in the park. Hetty also accompanies the parlourmaid, Sarah, to a seance with Madame Berenice, a medium. During the seance, an apparition of Hetty's long-dead foster brother, Saul, appears before Hetty, frightening her. Parental Substitute: To Diamond, taking on the role of caregiver and big sister, which is often portrayed as frustrating for Hetty who's still only a teenager herself.Hetty Feather is a Foundling Hospital girl and was given her name when she was left there as a baby by her mother. But she always longed to be called Sapphire, after her sapphire-blue eyes. When she is reunited with her mother, she hopes her new name, Sapphire Battersea, will also mean a new life! But life doesn't always go as planned... Hetty Feather (Sapphire Battersea) - a former foundling trying to find her way in the outside world. As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children's Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children's Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame. Setelah menamatkan buku pertamanya Hetty Feather.. kini petualangan di buku kedua juga seru abis! Sampe bela2in baca ampe tengah fajar... walaupun tebel, ga berasa... saking serunya :) Like the first novel there where many twists and turns, and I found myself surprised on various occasions (which rarely ever happens may I add). However, I did feel the first instalment had slightly more substance than the second. There also times when I wanted to clamp Hetty's mouth closed, but it was understandable, it was her fiery personality after all.

Jacqueline is also a great reader, and has amassed over 20,000 books, along with her famous collection of silver rings. She is set up in a good position as a house maid to a well known author. As a budding writer herself Hetty has ideas of grandeur, sure he will see her talent and take her under his wing, but life is never that simple for Hetty.

I must say Hetty Feather and Sapphire Battersea are by far my favourite novels/ series Jacqueline Wilson has written to date. Although older than the target market, I really liked this book. Hetty Feather/Sapphire Battersby is a really lovely character who is always up to mischief. This novel follows her journey after leaving the Foundling Hospital where she was left by her mother as a child.Sarah: Mr. Buchanan's parlourmaid, described as looking like a potato. Sarah, is a regular client of Madame Berenice's seances. Hetty chooses not to expose Madam Berenice as a fraud mainly for Sarah's sake. Career Versus Man: The main dilemma Hetty faces throughout the books. She leaves Jem for the circus and can't reconcile her feelings for either him or Bertie.
