A repetitive, sour-sounding guitar joins in just before initial chorus bursts through the murk: Reznor shouts “I tried to get so high/I made it ten miles high,” each “high” echoing like a sonic exclamation point through the crunch of the guitar and drums that sound like they’ve been covered in cast iron. Quieter parts with more space sound nice, but that's mostly just because the vinyl came super clean and quiet. All of these changes made for the vinyl carry over to the Definitive Edition pressings, released digitally in 2016 and on vinyl in 2017. When the chorus and its repeated proclamations of miles-high self-medication come back, everything sounds muffled and choked rather than crisp and piercing.

The vinyl version of The Fragile features two tracks not available on the CD version: 10 Miles High and The New Flesh.

The definitive vinyl edition of The FRAGILE, meticulously prepared by Trent Reznor and NIN art director John Crawford. So we were literally working round the clock for what turned out to be weeks until we finally nailed it and I was able to go home. Deviations 1 consists of a one-off, limited edition four-LP pressing that was not made available on CD. It's also interesting on the LPs themselves are not directly labeled, instead having to rely on matching up their colors with the included legend/track list.
