About this deal

Calamansi ( Citrus x microcarpa) is a small citrus tree that is popular as an indoor houseplant. This miniature citrus tree looks like an indoor orange tree, but in reality, it is a lime with orange rind. Dwarf Hamlin – Hamlin oranges are a seedless variety that is prized for its sweet flavor and easy-to-peel skin. They are typically harvested in late fall to early winter. Before deciding where to plant a citrus tree in your small garden landscape, ensure that water doesn’t gather there. Waterlogged soil can cause leaves to fall off and affect growth. These dwarf trees can grow to a maximum of two metres, producing masses of fruit every year. The fruits of this tree are very tart. However they make a refreshing and unusual addition to cold drinks, they can be used in place of other citrus in fish and game dishes and make a wonderful marmalade!

Put the potted dwarf citrus tree near a south-facing window. Citrus trees need between 6 and 8 hours of sunlight daily, 12 hours of sunshine is even better. There should also be enough air circulating in the room for the tree to grow well. So, keep a window open. Proper temperature for indoor potted citrus trees Let’s look in more detail at the best way to care for your evergreen citrus trees. Light Requirements for Dwarf Citrus Trees Many orange varieties can be successfully grown and fruited in the UK climate. Oranges are a surprisingly hardly plant, and can cope with temperatures as low as 4c. Many robust orange hybrid varieties are being developed meaning the orange has a promising future in UK gardens. If you wish, you can even turn your citrus trees into dangling plants with minimum fuss or effort. Place your dwarf orange tree or other citrus varieties into a sizeable hanging planter to make a fanciful and fun hanging plant that will impress guests and provide them with occasional fruit! How Do I Care for My Dwarf Citrus Tree? Orange trees are best grown as potted plants so you can move them around during the growing season. Indoors you can put your orange tree anywhere where it isn’t dark or in front of central heating. Oranges like airy conditions and small potted trees will grow well in sunny windowsills or conservatories. Outdoors, somewhere sheltered yet sunny will be ideal so they can enjoy the warm sunshine and be protected from any winds. If you have a sunny south facing patio in a sheltered spot, your orange tree should grow very well. We would recommend placing the orange tree in a corner close to a wall for optimally warm conditions. How To Prune Orange Trees

Proper care and attention are crucial for growing citrus trees in pots or containers. The restricted space means that growing citrus plants in containers is more stressful than growing outdoors. Dwarf citrus trees such as lemons, limes, and small orange trees are well-suited to growing in containers. You can move the potted citrus plants indoors during cold winter months. When the weather warms and the sun shines, it is easy to transfer your small citrus tree outside. How to choose the best dwarf citrus tree to grow indoors Dwarf orange trees prefer well-drained soil with organic matter and a pH level of 5.5 to 6.5. Regular fertilizer is necessary for healthy growth, especially during the growing season. Fertilize every 2 weeks in warm weather and every 4-6 weeks in winter, making sure not to get fertilizer on the leaves. Light Tangerines are also a mandarin hybrid. Their fruit is sweet and the peel is firm. Have patience with these ones as it takes up to 1 ½ years for fruit. If you are looking for an excellent miniature orange tree as a houseplant, try a Tahitian orange tree ( Citrus x limonia ‘Otaheite’). This small citrus tree produces lots of small, sweet oranges. You can place the pots on patios or balconies in the summer and bring them indoors in fall and winter. Dwarf Clementine OrangesClementines are a favorite with kids because they are small and easy to peel. Plus, they are almost seedless. You can catch their sweet scent as you walk by. One of the beauties of Meyer’s dwarf lemon trees is that they produce fruit throughout the year. The potted tree has glossy green foliage and produces sweet, tangy lemons. Once you have a thriving tree if you want more, propagate it from softwood cuttings rather than seeds. What are softwood cuttings? They come from branches that are not brand new or too old and dried out. You can tell if a branch is a good candidate to cut from when they snap if you bend them. New ones just bend and ones that are too old are brittle. Once you find the right aged branches and cut them take the lowest set of leaves off. Then plant in a small pot with potting soil & fertilizer. Place the pot in a sunny window. If you attempt to grow more trees from your own seeds you will probably not get any fruit.
