About this deal

The inherent robustness doesn’t translate into bulk; with an overall weight just shy of 1kg, and vital statistics of 210 x 105 x 100mm, it’s easily portable to take to the range, and doesn’t take up much room on the workbench, either. The other day, my rifle was feeling ‘wrong’, and when I shot it over the chronograph, it was running at 730fps, so I knew that either a seal had failed, or something more catastrophic had happened, and when I took the rifle apart, I found that I had a broken spring. So, having a chrono’ immediately pointed me toward a problem. A chronograph is a device that is used to read the speed of the projectiles that we launch with any type of weapon, from a humble slingshot to an Express rifle for big game hunting. By testing different pellets downrange, I now know which pellets work the best in each rifle, and there can be a huge difference. So this is why a chrono’ like the LMBR can certainly help your shooting.

However, if I put the JSBs through the wrong gun, this will drop to 590fps. There is no doubt that a faster pellet will take less wind and have a flatter trajectory, and there can also be a bigger difference between pellets with different head sizes. The MagnetoSpeed Sporter chronograph kit is designed for use on barrels from 1/2 inch up to 1 inch in diameter and can accommodate muzzle brakes and flash hiders up to 2.7 inches in length. It is ideal for contoured rifle barrels (sporter barrels). Crudely put, chronographs measure the time it takes for a pellet fired from a gun to pass between two sensors. To work out the energy output, the feet per second (fps) reading has to be multiplied by itself, then multiplied by the weight in grains of the pellet and divided by 450,240.

The other advantage with the R2A is that you can set it up so that it sits just in front of your muzzle, and depending on how high your scope is, you can shoot your targets and just look up at the display and see your velocity. This way, if you have a shot that hits high or low, you can see if there has been a power fluctuation at the muzzle. The R2A will remember a 250 string of pellets and there is no doubt that this chronograph will help you to be more consistent and so choose the best pellet for your rifle.

The use of one pellet or another, with one shape or another and with one weight or another will provide variations in the speed of the projectile. With the chronograph, we can find the pellet that most closely approximates the ideal speed for the caliber we are using for the sake of maximum precision or for any other purpose. We can say that the chronograph is a magnificent tool that provides us with information that we cannot obtain in any other way, without it we are blind, that is the matter. The LMBR chronograph is the brainchild of Radoslaw Koziol an electronics/ telecommunications engineer based in Bartag, a small village in Poland. His original work started in 2007/08, and in his own words, was more a hobby than anything else. As often happens, matters started to get a bit more serious, and he changed the brief to produce a reliable practical device capable of producing data that would be useful to the shooting community. From my findings, I think he has achieved his brief and then some, but I’m getting ahead of myself. The essential companion for anyone involved with airgun maintenance. In rifles or air pistols, chronographs are usually used to find out the constancy of the speed of the projectiles fired in such a way that if the readings are very similar and there are hardly any variations between one and another, that is, between the speed of the projectile one shot and the next, and so on in a series of X shots we can see that the weapon has a good valve or a good regulator or a spring in good condition that makes the projectiles all fly at the same or very similar speed. That is the first step to a good weapon accuracy. Shoot through the chronograph window with a distance from the muzzle (for airguns) of about 10/20 cm. and about 40/50 cm in the case of a 22 LR caliber firearm. or similar. The apparatus will give the projectile velocity and energy readings in joules directly. Knowing the speed of the projectiles is useful for many things but mainly, in the subject that concerns us, to obtain ballistic information of the projectiles fired. We have an optional storage bag available for the LMBR R2A chrono what protects the measuring sensors against dust and keeps the chrono in mint condition.

For example, a ‘chrony’ will determine the sweet spot on your PCP – the fill pressure range where your rifle is most consistent. It will also help you identify potential problems, and for you tinkerers out there, it will validate the effectiveness, or otherwise, of your labours. LMBR R2A Shooting Chronograph For Airguns, Firearms And Bows

To gain access to the cell compartment, it is necessary to remove the plastic plate on the base. This is secured by four 2mm hex-head screws, and a suitable wrench is supplied for the purpose. The cranked end of the wrench is useful to pass through the slots in the cover to help lift it off and the substantial internal cell retaining clips help to keep things firmly in position. Be aware that they both face in the same direction. Let’s start with the construction; fabricated from 1.2mm steel, coated with a textured paint that brings to mind cameras from the 1960s, or indeed the dashboard of a classic MG sports car. In one word, probably best summed up as ‘robust’ with the overall im==ression that providing you don’t shoot it, it’s something that’s going to be with you for the long haul.

The G2 provides a large area through which to shoot, which is handy as Caldwell recommends standing 10 to 15 feet away, though I’m sure you could get away with being much closer when using an air rifle. Although it will handle projectiles weighing up to 49.9 grains and 4,000 fps, the Skan is designed purely for air rifles. Don’t be tempted to use it on your powder burners, as it will damage the sensors. By shooting trough the LMBR R2A chronographthe display shows you the exact pellet speed and power of the rifle. The simple and decent design makes the chronovery easy to use. Obtain directly in joules (or in ft / lb - Imperial System) the energy of the projectiles of your pneumatic weapon or firearm (Cal .22 LR or similar), you just have to provide the weight of the projectile to the device, recording it in it by operating the buttons that appear on the front of it. Shoot through the window, the device will inform you of the speed of the projectile and the energy calculated directly in joules or in ft / lb depending on whether we choose the metric system or the imperial system.
