To be fair, Canon's new mount is only two years old, so it wouldn't make sense not to capitalize on all that extant glass. Yeah, and in 2015 when a Metabones adapter could AF on a Sony, how many native Sony options were there? Versus Canon EF options which worked increasingly well and, however much you'd like to deflect about FD, those adapted Canon lenses sold full frame Sony FE cameras.

And once when he did not get any printouts, he told the machine some carefully chosen words and then he pulled the cable out of the outlet. Took the machine down the corridor and placed it in the elevator and pushed the bottom floor button and went out of the elevator. And down it vent. And then he went to the meeting. Don't let the price and size of this lens fool you, because it really doesn't compromise too much on image quality. Granted, it's not quite as good as the 24-70mm G Master or even the Sigma 24-70mm, but for the price it's perfectly acceptable. You never admitted to your erroroneos claim that "the speed booster adapters on A7RII cameras", was wrong, speed boosters are for crop sensors not ff cameras. The Sigma 28-70mm for Sony lens features a rounded 9 blade diaphragm which creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. Growing in popularity, the L-mount is based on Leica’s T-mount system, which stems from the Leica T (Typ 701) APS-C format digital camera, launched in 2014. With the subsequent launch of the Leica SL full-frame camera, the name was changed to the L-mount, with sub-categories of TL for APS-C format lenses and SL for full-frame. Bigger news came in September 2018, with the advent of the L-mount Alliance, formed by Leica, Panasonic and Sigma. This enabled all three companies to manufacture cameras with ‘interchangeable’ lenses in every sense of the word.

The aperture iris has 9 rounded aperture blades, and this helps keep the aperture shape fairly circular when stopped down. It is nice to have compact L mount lens options increasing in choice. I do not enjoy carrying a lot of fast heavy glass. This lens is a great travel lens. Metabones Speed boosters are for crop cameras, and they didn't get PDAF focusing capability until 2015, so it was useless on Sony FE mount. The a7r/a7s were CDAF-only, so they didn't work with any autofocus adapter other than the laea4, that had it's own SLT af system. RF and Z mounts are still very young. Sony E mount didn't have have many third party support during its early days either. As you move into the corners, the sharpness remains fairly consistent, with softening only really appearing in the very extremes. The biggest issue though is vignetting, or darkening in the corners, even with shading compensation turned on. Closing the aperture one stop to f4 greatly alleviates vignetting, while closing another stop or two also boosts the sharpness in the far corners.

Subject Separation

The Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens has a fairly generously sized focus ring, which is ridged for easier grip. There are no hard stops at the ends of the range, making it harder to set focus at infinity. Polariser users should be pleased that the more economical 67mm filter thread doesn't rotate on focus. Despite the considerable size and weight (and cost) saving compared to the 24-70mm 'Art', Sigma claims that the design of its newest zoom is based on that of the higher-end lens, and should deliver excellent results across its zoom and aperture range. The 28-70mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens is superb because it is so versatile. This is a lens that has the optics to deliver you professional quality results yet at the same time, it’s small and light enough that you can use it for more casual activities like taking it on vacation or outings with friends. It also has the focal length range that is great for all types of photography, and a large enough maximum aperture that can help you be more creative, and give you more flexibility in different conditions. Honestly, this is the type of lens that we need more of in the L mount system, and I’m very happy to see Sigma coming out with them. If you’re trying to build a compact system, and are currently looking for lenses that not only are optically exceptional but also compact and versatile, this zoom should definitely be on your list of lenses to consider. In the lens announcement video, they make the discreet distinction that the 24-70 Art is weather-sealed, while this 28-70 is NOT

The issue is keeping up the speed. To lengthen the wide end, without speed loss, will make the lens far bigger, as I understand it. And costlier, and heavier, to boot.Sony E-mount shooters also have access to the more affordable Tamron 28–75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD. It's just 16.3mm (0.6in) longer, weighs 80g (2.8oz) more, and gives you a fractionally more powerful 75mm telephoto than the Sigma 28-70mm. It also offers full weather-sealing versus the mount-only sealing of the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8. It's significantly lighter, by 44% in fact, and slightly shorter than its big brother, the outstanding Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art, which weighs in at 830 grams and measures nearly 12.5cm in length.
