I haven't owned a mechanical watch for about 45 years and having now viewed around 10,000 YouTube videos on the subject, I decided to go with a Seiko SRPD37K1.

The SRPH29 is an affordable and good-looking pilot watch designed to appeal to almost anybody and everybody.Pulling design inspiration from their older Seiko 5 field watch models, such as the SNZG15, SNZG13, SNZG11, SNZG07 and SNZG09, Seiko keeps with the simple and straightforward field watch design that features both 12 and 24-hour tracks, a day/date wheel, and bold and legible hour marks and painted hands.

Hamilton does win with a longer power reserve and slightly better accuracy, but are those alone worth the premium? Some will always prefer the prestige of a Swiss Made label, but I tend to prefer the history and in-house production of a brand like Seiko.For over 50 years, Seiko 5 Sports has delivered consistently high levels of reliability, durability, performance and value, endearing them to lovers of mechanical watches worldwide. Further, the handsets have been beefed up to extend all the way to the outer minute tracks, as the shorter hands on the previous model were a major complaint about many. Although the cushion case shape and faux patina hour markers and hands attempt to make the Pilot Pioneer look a bit more retro than the modernized SRPH29, it offers a unique look.
