About this deal

And for me, the choice would be between the Hiplok, Kryptonite or Abus chains, because the OnGuard 10 mm chains are strange prospect... No surprises so far. We know a big chain like this is going to be heavy, but fairlystraightforward to use. Andwe’d also expect itto also provide a pretty high level of protection. Unfortunately it doesn’t.

Just to drive this point home, the 8020 Mastiff offers you the same practical level of protection as the 7 mm Kryptonite Keeper or the 6 mm Hiplok Lite. I’m not a big fan of carrying a chain round my waist. It’s likely to be dirty and it might even be dangerous in an accident. Much better to get your bike covered under your house insurance or take out specialist bicycle insurance instead. OnGuard 8020 Mastiff Review Summary I was also able to fit the Fahgettaboudit Mini under my belt loop, however this wasn’t hugely comfortable.

I would say the Bordo. Why? I think it’s probably a little bit more secure. And it’s easier to carry than the Hiplok. Now, although Abus steel is renowned for it’s strength to weight ratio, I’m dubious as to whether it would fare better than the 8020 against a pair of 42″ bolt cutters! Links with diameters of between 10 and 12 mm can sometimes be cut by medium size bolt cutters if the thief knows what they are doing and can get good leverage on the chain. Even though the Fahgettaboudit uses high-quality corrosion-resistant metals, I’d recommend cleaning & lubricating it every month. That’s not to say you shouldn’t buy either of them. They’re both pretty secure. Just not top level.

If anyone tried to cut or remove it, I wouldn’t have known a there were no marks on it. I was going to some rough areas too, and leaving my motorcycle outside for hours.I would say the v1.50 chain is too thin to offer enough protection personally. It’s too easily defeated by bolt cutters. The Gold chain will be more difficult to beat (but still possible) and if you’re risk level is reasonably low you should be OK with this one. The easiest way to guarantee this is to buy from a reputable brand such as Kryptonite, OnGuard, Abus or Pragmasis. Hexagonal links present more surface area than a standard round chain link which make cutting and sawing through the Mastiff chain extremely difficult.
