About this deal

Step 2. This is optional, but I like adding marshmallows on top of the bars once they are in the pan to show off their shapes and colors. So pull out about a ¼ cup of marshmallows from the cereal. Do NOT over cook your marshmallows! This is so important. If the marshmallows are over-cooked, they will result in a hard/unpleasant bar. We recommend that you take the marshmallows off the heat as soon as the almost all of the marshmallows are melted. If you still see 2 or 3 marshmallows that aren’t melted, that’s okay! Go ahead and take it off the heat. Be sure to use the photos in the post above as a reference!

Melt The Mallows. Add butter and mini marshmallows to a saucepan, and stir over medium-low heat or medium heat. If your mixture doesn’t seem to be coming together, use a whisk to mix it. It should pull together easily! Melt The Marshmallows. In a medium saucepan, over low-medium heat, melt the butter and then add the marshmallows. Marshmallows - mini marshmallows are great to use because they melt faster. You can substitute regular marshmallows, but I recommend chopping them up a little first. No matter what, be sure to use fresh marshmallows or you’ll risk losing that chewy texture. They know that things on the stove are hot and don’t try to grab at anything on or near the stove, and are patient to ask us if they can help.

Hint: Don't forget to reserve 2 cups of marshmallows to mix in along with the cereal. Substitutions/ Variations Cream the butter. Use your stand mixer or a hand mixer to cream together 1 cup of room-temperature butter, ¾ cups of both sugar and brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon each of vanilla extract, baking soda, and salt until creamy and smooth. Storing: Store at room temperature for up to 5 days. If you want them to last longer, store them in the fridge for up to 10 days. These bars can also be frozen. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, place in Ziploc bags and freeze for up to a month.

FRESH TIP | Use a pot large enough to be able to stir the cereal in after all of the melting. Brown the butter in a large pot Add marshmallows and stir until mostly melted Tip: Do not press down too hard or too much or the bars will end up hard. Just press down lightly until they are in an even layer! Salted Butter - I prefer to use salted butter for the little boost in flavor, but you can use unsalted it you prefer. If desired, you can chill your cookie dough for an hour before baking. This will reduce how much they spread.Vanilla Extract - you can use vanilla extract or substitute coconut extract for a slightly different flavor.
