About this deal

Here the narrator finally acquires his name “Fluke” when one of the Guvnor’s gangster friends discovers the dog can play a complicated street game. The film's human actors acquit themselves admirably under the circumstances, but there's no question that the stars are Comet (as Fluke) and Barney (as Rumpo), bolstered by excellent trainers and special-effects personnel. I had never heard of Edenbridge but now live here nothing to do with the book started working here in 1997 and have been here ever since. A paperback edition of a horror novel published simultaneously in hardback, which follows a mongrel as he wanders the streets of the city, tormented by a memory deep in his consciousness that he had once been a man.

And some other weirdness, typical of Herbert's writings, but just put that disbelief away in the closet and read on. His tales of the supernatural are often written with a flair to thrill the reader and have elements of horror, crime and fantasy which adds to the enjoyment factor. No particular emotional reaction to this book, however, I was somewhat pleased that the book managed to translate well from the 1995 film.

For the most part, however, this novel doesn’t have a specific purpose other than to follow Fluke’s many interesting experiences. Widely imitated and hugely influential, his twenty-three novels have sold more than fifty-four million copies worldwide, and have been translated into over thirty languages, including Russian and Chinese.

After Rumbo's death, Fluke seeks out his surviving wife Carol and son Brian and reunites with them by becoming their new family dog.No mention of sex, and no real horror elements, it follows the life of a young dog, who is plagued by dreams of being a man, and, determining that he was once a man in a previous life, that he had been murdered and decides to track down his human family to protect them. When you read the blurb of this book, the plot may seem template based on the surface, but the fluency and the make-believe manner, in which he describes the common sights, sounds and smells that surround us humans re-scaled from the sensory viewpoint of the canine is one of strengths of the book. Events mean that Fluke has to leave the scrap-metal yard and the urge to find out about his previous life becomes overpowering so he tries to find the town where he used to live, however, he only has vague memories of his life as a human. Fluke’s experiences with humans is mixed but he never manages to settle into a happy co-existence with them though he is always drawn back to them.
