About this deal

Unless Sigmar hung around to Karl Franz' soul for thousands of years, there's no way it's him. This happened before Sigmar became a fully fledged god (when he grabbed his hammer). This happened before the Mortal Realms were a thing. This happened before the pantheon of Sigmar. This happened before the chaos invasion, the battle of the burning skies, the retreat to azyr. This all happened before the Stormcast were even a twinkling in his lightning-wreathed eyes. Ok so here we have a confirmation of being a king of men, and one of, if not the first of either the stormcast eternals or worshipper of Sigmar. Overall nothing too new but Translocation could be big. Stormcast rely on deep strike and teleports to augment their pokey speed and anything to add to the toolkit for that is a welcome add. Mount Traits Six, count em six new Battle Tactics which you can choose in addition to the ones in the General’s Handbook. I will confess I have some concerns about these because I’ve seen what they do to 40k. They’re a great idea in theory to encourage players to try and adopt an intended strategy or just add some fluffy options beyond the generic. In reality these are really difficult to keep thinking up new ones and keep them balanced, which leads us to the Haves and Have Nots we were trying to avoid in the move from Second to Third edition. How do these look? Not bad.

Her unique spell is Blaze of the Heavens , which got me incredibly excited until I finished reading the damn thing. Casting value of 7 and 18” range for D3 mortal wounds isn’t… great, honestly, but you do add 2” to the range of the spell for every Thunderstrike unit wholly within 12”. So, if she’s in the middle of your Dominion army, this is a 32” range spell! …that still only does D3 mortal wound on a 7 to cast with no innate bonuses. When I first read this spell, I thought it was plus two damage for each unit within 12”, and was about to lose my mind at how awesome it is. Sadly, that spell only exists in the darkest recesses of my own home-brew rules. Remember that she’s a Thunderstrike unit herself, so the minimum range for this spell is always 20”.

Gotrek also faces a Godbeast, some of the strongest beings of the setting, literal Sigmar-tier, and he says its smaller than Skjalandir, a chaos dragon in OW. By simply telling the godbeast all that he's fought and beaten in OW, the godbeast also fled. The celestial storm brought by the Celestant-Prime makes it almost impossible for his foes to land a clean strike. Stormhost are your unit subfactions. Same disclaimer for other factions: Subfactions are optional, but if you take one you gain a new allegiance ability and command ability in exchange for a mandatory Command Trait and Artefact (Which may or may not be a bad thing, many are quite good). Additionally, all named characters are part of Hammer of Sigmar. You can use unique characters even if your army isn’t Hammers of Sigmar, the characters just don’t gain any benefits from another Stormhost. Stormcast have more subfactions than any other faction to date, with a whopping 8. Most stop at 6, and even Cities of Sigmar only goes up to 7.

First Karl Franz from the World-That-Was, now I don't think it Franz because the combination of the incarnate and Sigmar probably completely absorbed his soul to the point where it doesn't exist. Also he is described as a King not an Emperor unlike Lord-Celestant Imperius: The Lord-Imperatant proudly continues the noble Stormcast tradition of wearing your pet’s parent as a cloak , being accompanied by a Gryph-hound who is obviously going to be on their very best behaviour to avoid a similar fate. Allegiance Ability: Storm of Annihilation –If a unit destroys an enemy unit, it gets reroll 1s for the rest of the battle. This is good, especially if you make a hard push early on. B+ It’s finally here! After 2 months and a few delays we finally get our hands on the first battletomes of 3.0, thanks to Games Workshop sending us review copies. A lot of excitement has been brewing as new (and returning) players wish to see Battletomes to properly support their Dominion/Starter Set armies and other players want an insight about what sort of things we can expect from other Battletomes going forward. At the end of the day though, Stormcast aren’t flash hot as an army right now. There are some intriguing ideas in this set, but we really need to wait for the new Battletome before we get too excited. Except for the teased chariot, of course. GW, be a bae and just shoot a couple of those little beauties our way, ‘kay? It’s not an inspiring graph, but there’s a fairly decent spread in here. Praetors and Yndrasta are the real winners, while Annihilators are interesting, Lord-Imperatants and Knight-Vexillors both have use cases, and Vindictors are your bog standard vanilla battleline. The only real loser here is the Knight-Arcanum, who really just needs to go home and level up to become a Lord-Arcanum before being interesting again. On the other side, Knight-Arcanum is only 10 points cheaper than a Lord-Arcanum, and is just… bad? That 10 points contains a lot of stuff, including healing, once per battle mortal wound bombs, a nifty command ability, an awesome debuff spell (-1 to hit on an enemy unit), and a super charged Arcane Bolt. Aside from her cool mask, I don’t think she’s really worth the points right now. Aetherwing • Celestial Dracoline • Dracoth • Gryph-Charger • Gryph-Hound • Star-Drake • Star-Eagle • Star Falcon • Tauralon
