Regardless of reboots or relaunches or needless sequels, Hellraiser will always remain a genre-defining classic in my book. Director Tony Randel papers over the script issues with a dark and twisted fantasy mindset to give this film its own identity, yet at the same time, he injects a playful sensibility to it, making it the best blend of horror, fantasy and fun of all the films in the franchise. We reviewed the region free UK Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Hellraiser: Quartet of Torment on a JVC-DLA N5 Ultra HD 4K projector and a Panasonic DP-UB820 4K UHD player . Although he had made a couple of short films when he was younger, he had never directed a full length feature. Quite good extras, informing and the interviewed people were interesting for real and had a lot to tell, the one with Sean Chapman about interpreting Frank is particularly good as he speaks of how he gave a special nuance to his character.

Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth sees Pinhead set loose on the sinful streets of New York City to create chaos with a fresh cadre of Cenobitic kin.Hellraiser: Resurection - an archival featurette with clips from interviews with Clive Barker, special effects designer Bob Keen, Doug Bradley, composer Christopher Young, and special effects artist Steve Johnson, amongst others. A few years later (or is it months), Frank's brother, Larry (Andrew Robinson, Cobra), and his second wife, Julia (Claire Higgins, The Fruit Machine), move into the same house where the box was opened. The box is sturdy and beautiful and each individual case has unique, original artwork - specially designed for this release! And as anyone who has seen any of these films before will know, they were all shot on 35mm and made heavy use of optical work for their SFX and VFX work, as well as very early CG, meaning there was always a degree of fluctuations present in terms of their look – especially their detail and grain levels.

The film managed to accomplish quite a bit with a frighteningly small budget, translating Barker’s fetishes and dark imagination with terrific atmosphere and shocking scenes of horror.Quite a bit of grain in this image, though it’s appealing and feels inherent to the film’s handmade, low-budget aesthetic.

When it does the box also summons its keepers, the cenobites, and they do some really bad things to its owner. Help isn't far when the beautiful Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) manages to solve the ancient puzzle box and summon Pinhead and his pain-prone friends Chatter (Nicholas Vince), Female (Grace Kirby), and Butterball (Simon Bamford) to stop Frank. Century Studios has provided us with the first official trailer for David Bruckner's Hellraiser (2022), Jamie Clayton, Goran Visnjic, and Hiam Abbass. Obviously, the above synopsis isn't exactly what Hellraiser is about… I just wanted to see if I could make this grim and dark pain-focused horror film sound like a heartfelt family drama you just might see on the Hallmark Channel. And certainly the best of the films are gathered here in this collection, now including one of the most interesting if not quite best of the sequels. Image Entertainment's Blu-ray release of Hellraiser isn't exactly on the cutting edge of Blu-ray excellence, but it certainly gets the job done.

However the toymaker is killed before he can complete work on a second box to neutralise the horrific powers of his first and Angelique is now free to indulge her desires. Hickox also seemingly took for inspiration the early 90’s horror cinema landscape, rather than anything more interesting from Barker’s world, and its poor VFX overload, pithy villainous one-liners and drearily realised miscreants that result lose almost everything that made the previous films so interesting.
