About this deal

For each preset you can edit the decay, mix and total output as well as fine-tune the EQ. It also has a 'thing 1' and 'thing 2' knob to alter different parameters depending on the preset. I actually own 3 of these pedals - the Cooper FX Arcades (Reverb Card), EHX Oceans 12 Dual Channel Reverb, and of course the Strymon NightSky, which is currently my favourite and on active duty in my chain. In cunjuction with the Echosystem i have now only need for a Uni-vibe, tremolo and a vibrato pedal. All other modulations are covered for me personally... Tone, Hi, Lo, Filter. These controls enable you to EQ your reverberated signal. A simple tone knob will help you go darker or brighter, whereas separate high and low controls, with perhaps a filter switch too, provide more sound shaping possibilities. Much of the time you’re going to find yourself fine tuning your sound with the straightforward Decay, Tone and Level knobs, which define the reverb’s length, color and wet/dry mix. However, if you want to drill deeper into your tone, or just fancy working through some big name presets, then you’ll love dipping into TC Electronic’s Toneprint software and library. Using the TonePrint Editor, you can build or borrow sophisticated custom sounds to load into its Toneprint slots and, here’s the clever bit, assign parameters to the pedal’s MASH footswitch.

Dual Delay Engines - 2 delays can be used at the same time, each with its own full set of controls and routed in serial, parallel or left/right.The need for separate midi box, is a little negative, but as long as it works, i have no problem with it. The BigSky also features a number of unique and high-end features that I find useful on a regular basis. For example, the pedal has a “freeze” mode that allows you to hold the reverb sound in place, giving you the ability to play over it like an instrument. I also make use of the “resonant tails” feature, which I find adds a level of depth and sustain that few other reverb pedals offer. Much like the Empress Reverb discussed before, we are in an advanced-level reverb generator with features that simply set it apart in a niche upper class of reverb pedals with little competition. My Review: Electro Harmonix makes another appearance on our list, this time with the Holy Grail Nano. I just love how remarkably simplistic this pedal is, with no extra controls added just for the sake of it. Let’s get straight to the point. The Holy Grail Nano offers three high-quality reverb presets that can be alternated using the small toggle switch on the right of the pedal. Firstly, there’s a spring reverb that is sharp and reflective in sound. Then there’s the more ambient hall reverb setting that provides a more spacey, psychedelic vibe. Finally, there’s the interesting addition of flerb, which is a more wobbly variety of spring reverb.

Look at its top panel and the Empress Reverb appears to have 12 reverb machines, including a handful of traditional engines plus more exotic sounding names such as ‘Ghost’ and ‘Sparkle’. What’s not immediately obvious is that it can be updated via an SD card with the latest algorithms from Empress, to provide multiple variations of the base 12. Currently, with firmware v6, the Empress Reverb features 32 reverb types and sub-types, and the company plans to keep releasing more. One little remark on the features: an USB port for connection with the PC (that many other pedals do have) would enlarge the tweakability. Especially some more adjustable parameters for the delay function would make the pedal really complete for me. Ambient Sounds - A complete palette of tweak-able ambient sounds that offer the creative player so much territory to explore and make their own. Cabinet Simulator - 3 variations to choose from, perfect for recording, practicing or for gigs without an amp
