About this deal

The first coprolites were discovered by Mary A nning in the early 1800’s who theorized that the strange “poop shaped” fossils she found were actually the fossilized poop of dinosaurs…the ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurus.

The rhymes were good, the beginning tied up well with the unravelling of the finale, and there was lots and lots of poop, which grossed me out, but I'm sure young children would find hilarious. There were three dinosaurs called A, B and C, who ended up losing their world but didn't really seem to care which I also found to be a strange message, but again, young children wouldn't likely notice. I enjoyed reading this book. it was different to most children's books. It was a slightly silly story. The pictures help to communicate the story and are one of the main draw to the book. The onomatopoeic words are written in large bold writing, so if you were reading the story out loud - it is giving you a prompt to extenuate these words. Join Danny and Dino for a POOPTASTIC Halloween - the first story in a brand new series! With rip-roaring rhyme and laugh-out-loud silliness, the Dinosaur that Pooped series has sold over 1.5 million copies around the world! Oh. My. Word. There is a new Pooping Dinosaur book out! Let's just say there has been a bit of excitement about this one in our house (and not just from my son-we both squealed in equal measure when it landed on the doormat). I love McFly and have long been aware of the warped sense of humour the band have, but my son Zachary knows Tom and Dougie only as authors-he didn't believe me when I went to watch McBusted and said Tom and Dougie were in the band! This may seem obvious, but the next thing to consider in deciding whether or not you have actual coprolite is where it was found.

Just like modern day animals, some prehistoric animals ingested stones for ballast or digestive purposes. These are known as gastroliths which can also be found in coprolites. If present, they generally have a smooth surface. Looking Under A Microscope Although a T. rexpoo in itself is interesting (or perhaps disgusting, depending on your sensibilities), this fossil is also important. It’s full of chunks of bone, which tell us that T. rexcould bite so hard that it crushed the bones of its prey – a highly unusual way of eating with no obvious modern equivalent.

Some coprolites have some crazy stuff found inside of them such as fish scales, plant material, bones and teeth! It’s neat that we can see these things inside an animal’s poop that lived millions of years ago. While swinging around they pass the Romans, Egyptians and Greeks before the swing breaks and they end up in the Jurassic Period where they meet 3 little dino babies. We also hadn't realised that the book was one of a series until we'd finished it, and as a standalone it left a lot of unanswered questions related to the gran's obsession with green and the existence of the magic swing. In the picture is a coprolite that shows evidence of insect burrowing. That means insects dug holes and tunnels in the poop and lived there! 🐜

Coprolites are the fossilized feces of prehistoric animals (enter poop joke here!) They can be found in sedimentary deposits throughout the world, including locations all over the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe. Using the poop equation, we can work out the size of the croc who made Precious - it was 6.5m (21 ft) long! 😲 The way an object looks under a microscope can tell you whether or not it’s a coprolite. If your specimen appears to be granular, unfortunately, it is probably not a coprolite.

There was only one craft we could do with this wonderful book – make dinosaur poo playdough! I wanted to use a playdough recipe I’ve made before but I’d ran out of Cream of Tartar so used a slightly different recipe: Other dinosaur coprolites have been found with plants inside, and one even contains decomposing wood – a sign that the dinosaur was supplementing its nutrition with fungi and bugs that feed on rotting logs. I’ve been sorting out our Christmas books trying to get a head start on our annual Book Advent. The kids love our Book Advent and I have as much fun choosing which books make the list as they do actually reading them. I placed the dinosaur poo playdough on the table along with a mixture of colourful pom poms, sequins, pipe cleaners and gingerbread people and left it out as an invitation to play for my children when they got home from school. That is why understanding where your specimen was discovered and what kind of geology resides there is so important! Composition The story starts with Danny, Granny and Dinosaur eating dinner celebrating Granny's 1008th birthday. The eat green mush - Broccoli, eggs and hard Brussels sprouts. Dinosaur eats Danny's as well because Granny won't let them leave the table till their plates are clear. Coprolites are the fossilised faeces of animals that lived millions of years ago. Coprolites are trace fossils which means that they are not fossils of the animal’s actual body, but of something that came from the animals body.
