I can’t say too much about Lysander because of spoilers. What I will say is that Brown writes him magnificently and he is one of those characters that elicits a lot of emotion out of me. Whether those emotions are positive or negative you will have to read the book to find out. It's been fun to have it take on a life of its own. I feel like I'm not even creating as much as I'm revealing things, and that’s a really lovely thing for me to have because it's so fun to get to explore my own world ... Anyone who writes books is at least mostly an introvert. It's amazing to be able to share that internalized part of myself, that little world that no one really knows about. I just wrote it down on a piece of paper just to be crazy, and people loving that is so strange. [13]

But when I had Pierce Brown on the channel he said “I got you” and that he did. I was sent an uncorrected proof by Pierce personally in exchange for an honest review. I’m going to break his knee if I ever see him again. It should be him on this hull. I’d tell him to his face, but he took the only relic in the base’s hangar that could still fly and stole off with Aurae, his Pink accomplice, while I slept. He recorded a little message telling me to tend my wounds, and left his mess behind—his crippled ship—for us to repair. The bastard.

I think the camaraderie in the book was as good as any of the books in the first trilogy and far better than what was on display in the last few books. Dark Age is an amazing book but was hard to read at times due to how bleak it was, but Lightbringer is a book you can finish in a few days because it is just so easy to read. I really liked Lyria and Cassius' friendship in this because they both had such a good arc, and in contrast if Lysander meets any end but being burned alive like the Ash Lord, I will be disappointed. I do wish we would have gotten more Diomedes in this second series though, because the political maneuvering he pulls off in this book is just on another level. Virginia got the screen time that she deserved in this one and I was so here for it. Her character has always been a compelling part of the series so to see a major piece of this story through her eyes was so satisfying.

Red Rising

It would be believable if said betrayal occurred due to an over reliance on honor but Piers let’s us know that honor is really a secondary value next to duty and furthering the goals of their house. So this continued blind spot of betrayal that is never learned from by the brightest minds of the society is glaring and serves as a huge distraction to the story.
